100% agreed. 15 hours sounds about right. I literally removed and replaced a perfectly good STARTER with a Brand new one… simply because I knew once theses ELH’s are in… I never ever want to try and get back in there (and I’m in the middle of a Restoration: my fenders are off, my front suspension is off and out of the way;; I can’t imagine trying to survive this with a DD over the weekend and be ready to roll on Monday, not a chance lol)

if they ever need to come out, I’ll be cherry picking the whole engine out first

    glad you survived

Dang, my truck is a '12 and the driver side took extra time and some bloody nucks but I had mine in in an afternoon. I wonder if the newer sets are bigger or something or if newer trucks are tighter in there? Still loving mine! They're in awesome shape for almost 10 years old

that is great to hear (the 10 years and loving them, that’s my hope too)

and I wouldn’t be surprised if they grew or morphed a bit. My drivers side kept getting hung-up with the Starter, the tranny Bell and the Shock Tower).. I even had my steering ram out at the time.

And yes, after jacking the Cab about 1/2 an inch up … there in

but I will throw out there for “FUTURE” BHP Taco hunters down the road that might be going down this Rabbit Hole…

days later after my Install, I finally got around to putting on my URD Y-Pipe (fit right up great thank you)…

    but … BUTTTT:: O2’sensor’s

I went to put in my O2 sensors in on them Long Tubes (yes, with URD extension cords) on slash AT the Collector’s (as recommended by “THEM” for the best O2 reads)…

    drivers side: no Issue

passenger side: different story boys… the plug Hole for my O2 Sensore lined up perfectly with my TRD Tow package Tranny Cooler Lines … I had to GENTLY bend them up, over and down so that the O2 can/could be Threaded in
    Between them

I’ve only got about 3/8’s of an Inch of Clearance on either side

my fingers crossed them solid “SOLIDS” engine/tranny mounts I just put in live up to there name… if my Headers start moving around… bye bye Tranny, bye bye getting home

I’m sure it all work out and be fine
((In theory,, everything should move around as ONE big single hunk of Fun)

but can anyone else with these URD E=Length Headers take a Quick Look at theirs and see if there’s are in a different place?
    Was it tight? Etc etc

pS TW- I’ll keep ya posted as-well

    much love and Aloha TW

Hey, been lurking through this and multiple threads about the URD spec-U headers and noticed a general consensus that they can cause some of that "ricer" rasp that people try and tame with some resonators.

Currently I still have the stock headers and y-pipe with the AFE Rebel series catback and i love the tone but after a couple years want more. I've been looking at the doug thorle "pipe bomb" y-pipe with dual 10" resonators to pair with the URD Spec-U headers.

Ive watched every video posted on this thread just about 5 times over as well as nearly every video on SconnieHailer's youtube channel with his taco, managed to also find another gentleman with a setup very close to the one i am looking for, only difference is he is running the URD y pipe without resonators, i would imagine the only real difference would be the slightest bit less rasp and more centered tone with the dual 10"resonators with the doug thorle y-pipe.

Any thoughts, opinions, 2-cents, comments from the peanut gallery or experience with this kind of setup?

This style exhaust y-pipe, helps the most. Then a good muffler.

Yeah, i saw that thread and its an amazing piece of metal, just out of the price range rn as a college student paying a mortgage.

Huge fan btw, been reading up on your crazy forged/sleeved engine build the last couple weeks, your perseverance is unparalleled.

Here’s how mine sounded with URD spec u headers, JFR equal length ypipe and an extra vibrant 3” resonator on an AFE rebel catback. Very similar to what you mentioned except my truck is supercharged so it’s even louder. It was fun for the first few months, but it is super loud and kinda got old. Sounded rowdy though:D

Glad to see people are still posting on this thread. Just wanted to give a heads up and ask a question. I just got my URD headers delivered yesterday and have been trying to find answers on how to properly run them without throwing codes, lights on the dash, or killing the truck. I have a 2011 TRD OR Prerunner if that helps. No air injection, only changes made were from the y-pipe going back as to where i made the y-pipe an x-pipe. Otherwise stock exhaust. Was getting the URD equal length spec-u headers a wise decision? I really want to make this work and function properly

URD UCON is what I’m running. It has o2 sims built in, so it takes care of the p0420/p0430 codes. HPtuners is another option, but a custom tune would be required.

I have the O2 sims that URD used to sell. I don’t think they dare to make/sell them anymore, but there are write ups on T4R & IH8MUD on how to build your own. Or try the spark plug defouler trick. HPTuners - which I also have - let’s you turn off the rear cat monitor so you won’t get a CEL, but is probably the most expensive solution. It’s really nice to tie all your mods together tho and you can also tune the transmission with it - if you’re automatic.

If you still have the stock y-pipe flanges in the stock location, these headers will bolt in. Just be prepared for a less than enjoyable install process, but it’s a c-hair easier for you since you won’t have to deal with air injection tubes.

These headers won’t cause dash lights (except for CEL - cat efficiency codes) and won’t kill the truck if installed in a competent manner. I recommend you also get the O2 extension harnesses to read from the collector instead of just one of the primary tubes.

Did you find your engine ran rich after the install of the headers? I installed everything with brand new O2 sensors, front and back, while I was in there as well as walker exhaust Y pipe and exhaust (original had holes from corrosion). Course got the rasp so after some reading I was thinking about throwing another muffler in there to help. I'm saving for an HPTuner to fine tune my auto V6 but just used an extension to move the second bank O2 sensor about an inch from the exhaust for the time being, no CEL though could be some of the issue.

Did you get OEM O2 sensors? No, I didn’t have issues running rich. Generally, opening up the exhaust would make it run leaner, but the ECU is well capable of adjusting the fuel mix, especially if you use the extension harnesses. I’m tuned with HP Tuners tho so my fuel tables aren’t stock. The rear O2 sensors only monitor cat efficiency, nothing to do with fueling.

Edit: since you deleted all cats, your truck exhaust is gonna be stinky! Is that where you get that impression from or did you do data logs or have an AFR gauge?

Yeah Denso makes their sensors got em new from rockauto. I still have the second set of cats right now, was hoping it would help a bit with the rasp lol, but you might be right there didnt think of that. Wonder if throwing some smaller mufflers or resonators in place of the second cats would help with the rasp though. Yeah I know what the two sensors are for and made sure bank 1 sensors were at the end of the headers where it can measure off of all three cylinders with the extension harness, what was your goal with the fuel tables and how has that worked out for you? I was interested in HPTuners for the transmission points initially. More so now that I have the headers and threw in the 3* URD cam sprockets as well, I like power when I need it but to have full combustion and trying to be somewhat decent with mileage on the highway is nice as well. Just did a top end clean up and checkup in the spring renewing gaskets and timing components while I was in there so was a perfect time to throw this all together.

I still have my stock y-pipe and catback. I welded a 12” cherry bomb in front of the muffler. It definitely sounds worse than stock but is livable. Better than before the cherry bomb.

Regarding tuning, my goal? Moah powah lmao. Idk man, I just run a tune that @JustDSM sent me some four years ago or so. Was tweaked once two years ago. Pretty happy with it.

And your friend JustDSM sent a specific tune via email? And then you just plugged the tuner module in and let it configure the rest?

How would you rate the tune? Did it fix the gear hunting issue? And did it clear any codes that popped up?
