Then I'm just jealous. but skepticism is from lack of data, as a former scientist you should be less anecdotal.

Hey guys quick question. I have a 2017 Tacoma with a 6" BDS lift and trd exhaust. Will I run into any issues with the URD y pipe? Possible to install at home?

Yeah I got a 4x4. trying to improve both sound and performance. any ideas of a solution or separate mods that aren't overly expensive? I've been looking into the k&n Blackhawk CAI

performance wise I've only installed this y-pipe. i had the mbrp turn down exhaust but i took it off because i was setting off my neighbors alarm at 4 in the morning. it did sound good though. i haven't done intake because the afe one looks like a pain to change/clean the filter.
i drive like a grandma so i don't worry too much about having more power. more important to have more armor for all the things i don't see and run into. the y-pipe was just for clearance (actually just looks).

Mark 2 is for the 3rd gen. If you get a mark 1 pretty sure that's for a 2nd gen. About a month ago someone posted that they received the wrong ypipe for their 3rd gen.

I put the O2 sensors. Your provided bolt/screw to block off the other bung if you don't wanna use an aftermarket AFR sensor.

The Mk 1 and the Mk 2 are both for the 3rd gen as I have had both versions on my truck. The Mk 2 was made to remove the rubbing that many were experiencing and provide better clearance for skid plates. The first picture shows the factory y-pipe compared to the Mk 1 and Mk 2 versions. The second picture shows the lack of clearance I had at first with the Mk 2 version. Gadget was great in helping me with the fix. The y section of the y-pipe had to be pulled back about a half inch on the passenger side and the long straight pipe had to be rotated 180 degrees since the flange has a slight angle and only works properly one way. Gadget said the future y-pipes will have an arrow showing proper orientation. It is so nice not having any rubbing anymore.

The last picture shows the y-pipe coming within an inch of the transmission which gives me some concern with overheating of the transmission fluid. If there ever is a problem with the tranny in the future then Toyota may not warranty it because of the URD y-pipe. I ordered a roll of titanium heat wrap insulation from Amazon but returned it after reading the follwowing link.

Is there anyone with any experience with exhaust heat wraps or heat shields? Thanks

Check Out My Build Thread :)
To give you a little peace of mind I would suggest wrapping it in header wrap still... it eliminates exhaust/headers from outpouring the heat source and absorb some of the heat... I've done it with almost every car I've modified and would suggest that as the best fix for now... that article you provided looks more like poorly made headers and possible moisture build up causing the rusting... I would take the wrap off every year or so and re wrap... all in all as long as you maintain your parts verses setting and forgetting they'll last a lot longer and allows you to do spot checks along the way

    just ordered the Y pipe.

any good suggestions for another muffler? i have the TRD and like it, but i also have a traction bar to fit in there and fitting both the bar and muffler requires the TRD muffler to be rotated 90deg so there's room to fit the bar. so i'm looking for a muffler that is less wide but still sounds good. don't need a ton more volume or any of that.

When my truck was bare bones stock i was getting 18-20 depending on how i drove. i put on BFG KO2's and it dropped to 15-18. Then i added a camper shell thinking it would get worse and im actually up to 29-21... I commute almost 40 miles each way to work going steady at 50-70mph also

No dyno sheets on this Y-pipe?

Frankly why doesn’t anyone just take the stock y-pipe and delete the cats in it...

How do you like it so far? Noticable performance gains? Any drone? I have the TRD Pro exhaust and OVtune also.

Because that’s way more work, with no gain. Your gonna have to cut them off then weld more metal. Even if you wanted to do that it’s still restrictive, the URD is a bigger diameter. Most people buy the URD y pipe or custom piping just for the ground clearance. Matt from OVtune said the most restrictive part of our trucks is the Ypipe.

I have it with the TRD exhaust but no OVtune. I think it sounds good for a v6, but everyone’s taste in sound is different. There is a small drone but it isn’t annoying.

lots of difference. i've posted about it in several places. my exhaust is a full custom job from the Y pipe back with rear cat delete, re-route dual resonators, a J pipe, and a Spintech 3000XL muffler. the whole system is open flow after the front cats. i did the work in stages, and regarding the exhaust the overall biggest single change, believe it or not, was replacing the TRD muffler with the Spintech. even removing the rear cats and removing the crush pipe didn't touch the change from getting rid of the TRD muffler, that thing is a big fat restrictive hog of a muffler... although it sounds pretty good IMO.

so, yeah, i have two resonators and a J pipe for a reason. but the drone is managed now.

Just got my Y Pipe installed and after about 40miles i got a Check Engine light. Was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. And if so how did they get this fixed. Also have the TRD exhaust
