What's a POS defined as? Cuz I've never owned a 60k vehicle and the only POS I've ever had was a GM full size.

A piece of shit = anything you spend more time at the dealer than you do just driving it, drive around with some damn problem because you are tired of being at the dealer, something that actual mpg is 2/3 as much as is claimed, something that rusts away in less than 10 yrs in places that don't salt roads and aren't near bodies of salt water and aren't wheeled every wknd, something with a recall letter hittin the mailbox or newscast every other month, something costing more than a car payment a month to maintain, any vehicle that pisses you off to have to drive for whatever reason, something useless by the time you pay it off, etc etc etc...........which covers most everything out there. It is just like voting, there aren't any great choices just the lesser of the bad choices. I wouldn't even think of spending 60k on any vehicle with the way the 20,30 & 40k ones junk up without any abuse or you get jacked so some craphead can get their next fix or pay their bills without actually working like most people have to.

The Mexican Taco plant actually does have more awards! I was worried too but mine is Mexican. In all honesty, it doesn't matter. They are put together with the same precision in all plants. I work at a Toyota dealership and neither one comes in more than the other for overall issues.

As far as I know, Nummi doesn't make Tacos anymore. My '06 was made there before they closed it. Toyota reopened it with a deal with Tesla motors to make electric cars.

At least at one point, the Baja plant had the second highest quality control in the world, just behind a Mercedes plant somewhere.

The issue isn't where the final assembly took place, it's the quality control and specifications of the components that go into it. IIRC, the frames being recalled were US built by a subcontractor, just like most of the rest of the truck. If, when Toyota engineers aren't looking, the sub substitutes a certain formulation of steel or skimps on paint to save a few bucks and still get paid the same from Toyota, then we are going to see problems.

Some incredibly well made stuff can come out of China, as long as the factory is given proper specifications and are held to QC standards.

Frames being recalled were US-built by Dana (i.e. the company better known for driveshafts and axles). Dana sold the US frame plants in 2009 to a Mexican company called Metalsa, which continues to make Taco frames today. Dana and Metalsa made frames for other automakers, too. Toyota was just cheapening out on the corrosion protection specified. Now they are paying for it several fold. It was good to see Toyota doing some management shuffles in 2011 - for years Toyota was operating too much like an American company.

Don't have to look far. The squeak-free blower fans that took Toyota 3 iterations to get right are made in China.

Everyone bashed GM and other US automakers for moving production to Mexico.

The only true "Made in the US" vehicles were Japanese brands.

Now the Japanese brands are abandoning the US plants to move to Mexico.

    Japanese brands have sold out.

US brands that sold out previously will have to sell out even lower.

My wife's Sonata has been a great car for us. 40 K and absolutely no issues. The dealership has also been fantastic IMHO. The car was built in Kentucky from my understanding and the 4 cylinder engine is extremely peppy yet gets +35 mpg with mostly highway driving.

Due to a sales event we also bought her car for 20K before taxes which included heated seats, heated mirrors, and satillite radio which is unheard of in Canada for a midsize.
