im having problems charging my iPhone 7 in my 2018 Tacoma. I moved my old usb cable from my old truck to this truck and it didn’t work good, seemed to have a malfunction so I brought an old Apple lightning cable that’s frayed on both ends and it’s been working fine. I dont want to burn my new truck down so I bought a new aftermarket cable this morning at Best Buy. It worked for 10 seconds and then stopped. Went back in Best Buy and swapped for another. New one works same way, 10 seconds and nothing. I turn the truck off and then turn the ignition on without starting and it worked for about a minute or so before I got out of the truck. So I cannot charge the phone while I’m driving down the road. Anyone else having this problem?

try another vehicle and see what happens, or try another phone and charger charger in your truck

Apple products don't accept aftermarket cables unless it's apple certified, best to use only applies cables

Either that or it's because built in USB ports in cars only provide .5 amps compared to a wall charger providing 1-2 amps

Try a new Apple cord. I’ve had terrible luck with other brands.

Thanks! I’ll try it in the house and then just get an Apple cable for the truck if I have too.

Tried it again with ignition off and it worked for about 30 seconds or so and then stopped. Borrowed a cig lighter plug with usb outlet and plugged it into that and it worked for several minutes until it turn the ignition off.

Try switching to the DC port in the cubby to see if the cord will power through there. Will help narrow it down

My dad gave me a new Apple cord and it works perfectly. I’ll just use this cord in the house

The only stock USB connector is the one that’s connected to the head unit. That doesn’t put out enough amps to charge much. That’s probably your problem. Get a different USB charger and put it in the cig socket, or simply replace the cig socket with a quality dual USB setup.
