Does anyone know why the USB ports in the center console don’t connect with the head unit and anyway to make that happen? I just would like to hook up an old iPod in there instead of running a wire to the one on the dash...it seems like something that should have been like that from Toyota.

It's hard to know the intent of the engineer. My guess is they figured tablets and stuff for kiddos or passengers, USB rechargeable flashlights and other junk could be charged in the console. Visually, it's less confusing to have the stereo connected USB closer to the stereo.

As far as customizing your vehicle to your needs, I can't help you because I don't have a fancy new truck with OE USB thingies.
