I'd be worried about overusing that USB port, with the constant switching of sticks. That USB port doesn't last forever, and is expensive to replace.

I use one 64GB Sandisk Cruiser Fit, filled with all of my songs, and just leave it in the USB port, ready for use at anytime. The Entune radio makes it very easy to find any artist or album.

I just us a Sony USB 32GB stick with a lot of different songs on it. It's like a iPod on shuffle. I never know what's coming up next :)

As far as album / artist info showing up... I don't really care since I already know who / what is playing. I leave my head unit on map mode all the time anyway.

You know you can also stream stored songs or Pandora through Bluetooth using your modern smartphone.

Does this work with other codecs, or just MP3?

It can also do WMA and AAC, if Entune.

    Nope, I tried.

For those of you with tagging problems, try mp3tag, it's freeware and does a fantastic job.

The other thing you can do instead of folders is playlists, but I haven't tried it.

Will this work with iTunes music? I remember back in the day (13+ years ago) mp3 players wouldn't recognize iTunes music less it was an actual iPod. Wondering if this is still true.

I have never had a USB Port wear out ... I have seen people break them, but wear out, No.

No, because iTunes files are stored in a proprietary format that only apple devices can play. I think you can convert your iTunes files to the more universal MP3 format for free though, and then use MP3s with almost any device.

I'm not an Apple person, but I thought AAC supported iTune files.

Nothing but windows plays nice with NTFS. Always go FAT32 to start with.

Errr... not to wander too far off-topic, but... although I can't disagree with avoiding Apple products (opinion), your statement implies that MP3 is open source when it isn't. If it doesn't imply that, nevermind.

I didn't think I implied that MP3 is open source, maybe it could have been worded better. I was implying that Apple can restrict what hardware iTunes music files are able to be played on, where open source products are a lot less restrictive and cheaper.

True, but there are many open source applications that let you create mp3's that are 100% free of DRM, and will play on just about anything. EAC comes to mind.
