Sorry to thread jack but yeah, I'm avoiding apple now. Especially after I have to redownload everything I've ever bought from them and some of it they don't have in stock anymore.

I've despised Apple products for those same reasons since 1995, and I'm a graphic designer. I hate proprietary bs.

I recently attempted to use my Sandisk MP3 player and found that although Entune on my 2015 Tacoma recognized the player correctly, it could not find any playable files. All files were ripped from audio CDs and display as .mp3. There were a couple of legacy files from Sandisk and it could not read them either. Toyota support told me to take it to a dealership. This is screwy.

    Sandisk had the answer:
In the Auto Detect mode the player can get detected in MSC or MTP mode depending upon the mode supported by the host where the player is connected. Typically car stereos do not support the MTP mode so on them the player gets detected in MSC mode. However, the preferred mode for connection on computer is MTP. Songs transferred on the device in MTP mode does not appear when its connected in MSC mode and vice versa.
That is what's happening in this case. To remedy the issue change the mode of the player to MSC and then connect it to you computer. After that transfer some songs on to it from the computer in MSC mode. Then your car stereo should display the songs on the player.

I use a 16 Gb stick and have my songs by folders I set up.Have about 6 Gb worth of songs on it are by title. Folders either by genre or artist. Hardley ever use the radio any more. Have a base level Radio. No nav or sat radio.

There are several free programs that will let you manipulate the tag information for your needs. Good luck guys.

I put a about 8 GB of .mp3 files on a Staples 16GB USB flashdrive. It worked after a fashion but I could not use the steering wheel controls ( other than volume ) and some of the albums showed up 1/2 and then the other 1/2 ( Axis: bold as love showed twice with each "album" displaying 1/2 of the tracks). I got a response from Sandisk that resolved the issue for entune plus and my Sandisk sansa clip zip 8GB:
"In the Auto Detect mode the player can get detected in MSC or MTP mode depending upon the mode supported by the host where the player is connected. Typically car stereos do not support the MTP mode so on them the player gets detected in MSC mode. However, the preferred mode for connection on computer is MTP. To remedy the issue change the mode of the player to MSC and then connect it to your computer. After that transfer some songs onto it from the computer while in MSC mode. Then your car stereo should display the songs on the player." That was all that was needed to have entune plus perform as advertised. Steering wheel controls work fine, files play fine, and since I am using the USB cable, the player gets recharged.
