    Hey Guys,

I just realized today that my usb outlet does not charge my phone. i have a Sony Xperia. Has anyone one else had the same problem?
The cable I used is functional. I plugged it into my computer and it worked just fine.

Try another device, and if not call your dealership. One of the perks of warranty.

Have you tried a different cable in the Taco? I had a cheapo iPod usb cable (Dynex) and it would NOT work in the Taco but worked just fine in my Mazda. Plugged in an Apple cable and everything was fine, iPod was recognized and played just fine.

turn off the phone and look at the battery before you turn off. Drive somewhere with it plugged in. Turn on when you get there and look at battery. If it raised at all, it was charging.

your phone is probably using as much wattage as the charger is providing while it's turned on.

USB 2.0 won't charge some phones especially those with large capacity batteries. Get a car charger and plug it into the 12v outlet.

Are you trying to charge it while the truck is turned off? The truck needs to be running or engaged for the power outlets to work.

Yeah my USB drive doesn't charge my phone, but I plug in my flash drive and it plays the music off my flash drive. I just charge my phone using the 12v outlet.

Yeah this may end up being your issue. Had my Note 4 plugged into the USB on a Nissan Altima, phone would not charge.
When you plug it in does it at least show your phone is receiving a charge?

I figured it out. My phone is just power hungry. In order for it to indicate charging I have to turn my phone off while it's plugged in.

Makes sense, with it on it's drawing too much power and the 2.0 USB doesn't support that.

So, basically, Toyota put a cheap under powered USB (the only one) in their "brand new" 2016 truck? :annoyed: The USB's in my 2014 Avalon charge my new Samsung S6 and my wife's iPhone 6 without a problem.

What is the amp rating of the built-in USB port?

Maybe a high-capacity 2.4A USB adapter that plugs into the 12v outlet would work?

This is realistically the best option.

I have noticed my self the USB port in the car charges very slow. It is a USB 2.0 and I'm giving the comparison to the USB 2.0 ports on my desktop(old pc). The specifications for USB 2.0 is up to 500mA. I was reading the manual and it was saying that the USB port is iPod/iphone compatible and that you can hook up USB memory sticks with music on it. I'm thinking the USB port is probably intended more for the entune to get data rather than for it to be used as a charger.

A lot if not all the electronics are not made by toyota rather by the lowest bidder so it is possible that in order to cut costs they used cheaper parts that don't necessarily put out 500mA. I kinda find it junk anyways, apple compatibility only? Because no one uses android obviously. I'm going to install my own wireless charging and I can say good bye to wires all together. Just put the phone down, have it charge while playing off bluetooth which connects automatically.

I came across this problem today. The USB port charges my E-cig just fine, but won't charge my phone at all. My trusty cheapass 12v cig-lighter adapter DOES charge my phone, which lead me to realize that this truck doesn't actually have a cigarette lighter for the cigarette lighter port it comes with. I don't smoke real cigs anymore, but that cherry-red firestarter has come in handy a few times in the past when camping. Can you buy those aftermarket? Will they still work like the old ones, where you push it in to heat it up and it pops out when it's super-hot and ready?

Toyota offered a smokers package. I wonder if you can just buy the lighter from Toyota

Funny thing is my 16 is doing the opposite of this. I can charge my phone via USB but it will not recognize or detect it as a source for audio, and it also will not detect the audio files on a thumb drive either. Thoughts?
