usb problem

The usb ports have quit working. Code 43 device not found/device not recognized -windows 7 dell inspiron. The internet says to go to device manager and uninstall the usb then scan for hardware and it will reinstall itself. I just want to make sure this is the correct fix and won't get me into a deeper problem...Thanks
