Hello all, I just recently got an IPhone 15 and bought a usb to usb-c. My phone would charge but I was not able to get my music playing. Anyone have ideas why this is happening or what to do about it? (Ps. I have a 2018 Tacoma).

Should be the same as 2021 for this, so make sure you're using the media port under the headunit on the dash. The port in the center console armrest is for charging only.

Thanks for the heads up. I am using the one under the head unit.

Bummer, would have to see it to know what the issue is then. Either something failed or an incompatibility. Will BT work?

Also check if you have any available headunit software updates: Home | Toyota Software

BT Still works. It keeps saying please add compatible files to your ipod.

2018 units aren’t CARPLAY. They will only read media files in standard format (Ala .mp3, .wav, etc.) iPhones never did a standard format (.aac I think?). Bluetooth is your best method. Otherwise, you’re relegated to audio out (mini-jack).

So I can’t listen to Spotify with my phone plugged in? I was able to on my old phone with the lightning cord.

I believe it was doing that via Bluetooth, just charging via the cord. I honestly never used it that way, since BT was just less complicated. I did hook up a HDD with media files that it negotiated no problem.
Perhaps that is an issue with firmware (radio) between lightning and USB-C negotiation/spec.
