The Iphone still has the same old lightning connector on it and the same USB to lightning cables that you have always used will still work the same. You are not moving enough data to see any benefit in the USB-C connector.

I had to buy a USB to USB-C cable to connect my iPad Pro to my computer. You would think it would come with the cable to connect to a computer to sync with iTunes out of the box. But then again it’s Apple.

I recommend an Apple lightning>USB-A cable. Seen a few posts on here about CarPlay issues with third party lightning cables, if it is that finicky then an adapter could also introduce problems.

That must be a change they made for 2021 as my 2020 only has USB A ports in the center dash and inside the center console there are 2 USB -A
None offer fast charge. I use a USB A to usb-c Cable for my OnePlus. 7pro. Of course nothing except OnePlus chargers will reach the 30 watt warp speed charging it can do.

    Edit
Since I have the wireless Android auto thing coming in February from a Kickstarter. I think this will be the perfect way to go with my 7pro until I replace it with something that has wireless charging and install the aftermarket charging pad.
This way is cheap and will charge me up as needed.

I mean you could just get a regular usb cord. The usb-c won’t have any special effect with an adapter

Yes and no. All my iPhones and family iPhones and work iPhone all came with lightning to USB-C charging cables. I’m not trying to get a performance boost. Just wanted to transition to a USB-C receptacle since all my cables are USB-C.

Thanks for all the info. Probably didn’t make myself clear but I’m not trying to get a performance boost by switching to a USB C receptacle for my CarPlay. I do have a regular Lightning to USB A cable I’m using. It’s a 3rd party cable but works. Just figured I would change it out to a USB C if there was one available since all my current cables are lighting to USB C.

Just leave all of the USB-C cables in the box and continue using the old cables that have always worked and you won't have a problem. The new cables were intended for the people that charge their Iphones with their MACs. If you don't do that, you don't need the new cables.

On my '21 there's a USB-C in the center console. I just use Bluetooth and have the Qi charging feature in the truck so I haven't tried plugging the phone in, but is there any reason that will not work?

Don’t really think Apple made USB-C cables so people can charge from their Macs. There are a ton of people who don’t have Macs but have iPhones. USB A is old and slow technology.

Apple removed USB from new Macs and they are now USB-C only. They put USB-C cables in the Iphone box without USB-C power adapters. Draw your own conclusion. When charging, the data speed has no relevance. I don't even see a speed difference when using USB-C to update my Iphone software. Definitely no need for USB-C when mobile.
