Well you will have to purchase a head unit regardless. This is the one most purchase.

    Sony MEX-gs610bt

    http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MEXGS610...d=1420759023&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+mex-gs610bt

It is xm capable so I dont see a problem. The satellite antenna pry has the same connector as I would think is xm proprietary.

It is more whether the app will use data or the satellite antenna. I was thinking about renewing my xm too. Though the app seems to have some bad reviews.

    Hey JAL,

The best way to integrate with a factory system is to place a radio behind the iPad. I sell Sony radios for use with my iPad kits because they offer the most seamless integration. Look into the AppRemote for Sony radios to see more, but basically, Sony made an app that allows you to control all functions and sources of the radio directly through the iPad, it's pretty awesome.

For satellite radio, you can get a SiriusXM app for the iPad which will stream satellite radio through your data connection. If you prefer the true satellite connection for your SiriusXM (albeit lossy as it is), the Sony AppRemote also lets you control SiriusXM through the Sony radio. You just need a SiriusXM tuner module, like any other aftermarket radio does. I can also supply the Sat tuner module and hard wire its power connection into the harness with this.

If this option does peak your interest, please send me an email and we can talk more about pricing, availability, and option.

I should have them printed by the end of next week; between the banks, paypal, the manufacturers ridiculous shipping methods, and the shipping carriers themselves, obtaining the 3d printer has taken quite a bit more time than expected. The printer will be here tomorrow (having shipped from Chicago), and all of the filament that I ordered should be here on Saturday (having shipped from Toronto, Canada )

After they are printed, there is some prep-work involved before painting. Painting should be a two day turn around time, then I just have to prepare the kits for shipping and send them off to their rightful owners!

Anyways, I've got all other miscellaneous parts and materials needed to get all of the kits to 100% and I'm pretty sure that my first prototypes should fit perfectly. These kits are going to be phenomenal, though. It's a huge difference having a product made from scratch, designed to serve an application, rather than modifying / fabricating an existing product to serve a different application than what it was originally intended for. This has allowed me to refine the design, strengthen it, and really optimize it for use with an iPad. Most of the improvements have been made to the supports that hold the iPad in place. One major improvement that comes from this new method is that the opening, reveals, setbacks, body lines, and all other parts of the kit will be completely uniform. I did a damn good job at hand fabricating these kits (better than I have seen anyone else on this site do with them), but nothing beats the assurance that everything will be made perfect by a computer controlled system.

Again, to everyone in the current production line, I cannot thank you enough for your patience. I know we're already a week past my original planned build deadline, but I can promise you this; it will be well worth the wait. Also, as you all already know, I have a few new products in the works for our trucks that you will be receiving free of charge as a token of my gratitude.

As for those of you who have expressed interest in these kits for future reference / plans; stay tuned. There will be major developments implemented into this already awesome product including new features, versions, and accessories. It's basically going to develop into an entirely new line of products.

So i hate you people.... What do I mean by you people.... The ones who want apples and Not android systems in your truck. But I'm getting my tax return soon and being a gub-a-ment employee uncle sugga has been nice to me and i picked up a mini 2 to start this process. Obvously i have a couple questions from the members of this thread and Shane.

I'm looking to add a Garmin glo, some type of odb sensor, and tether the interwebs from my Android. This is a start and more may be added. Any suggestions welcome app and hardware.

Has anyone had success with the multiple buletooth/wifi connections and the Sony head unit? im looking to consolidate my supply list before i place an order.

Welcome to the Apple family TOLLAV! Haha.

To answer your question about the bluetooth / wifi connections; The Sony unit has a separate bluetooth from the iPad. This can be used to connect your bluetooth / handsfree calling phone. For the OBD sensor and GPS sensor, you can only use one bluetooth device at a time with the iPad, I believe. This is why I went with the cellular iPad (GPS receiver built in). I believe Hunter V. White on these forums is using both a GPS receiver and a OBD reader through bluetooth, though I'm not sure how he deals with the connections or if he has to switch them over manually.

Wifi tethering has not been a problem for me, but I'm tethering from my iPhone to the iPad. As long as you have it set up correctly in your phone, it should behave normally.

One really cool thing I've discovered is that if you tether a wifi connection to the iPad and use spotify, it thinks you're on a regular wifi connection (not mobile) and it lets you skip as many songs as you want and listen to any song on demand. The GUI of spotify is very car-friendly, as well!

I have an unlocked Sony Z2 and it works great out here in Afghanistan so i assume better for the states tethering shoud not be an issue. my main concern is the multiple devices. (correct me if I'm wrong) the Sony HU connects/charges through usb and the ipad will support 7 devices but only one with sound. So it is fed by the android (immensely better OS.... ;)) over wifi for data and Bluetooth for audio and phonecalls. The glo will take Bluetooth and i believe the odb will be able to connect to the other channel of the wifi.

Some of the song's have 2 USB ports is there a way to connect on to the ipad and the other to the stock tacoma port?

The issue I have is the odb Bluetooth support having to rely on wifi connecitions and not wifi

I haven't tried using any of the OBD readers or connecting more than one device to the iPad at once. As for using the USB port in your truck, you just need to get a different USB port for that knockout. There is one company that sells ones that are almost identical to the factory one and fit perfectly in its spot.

Unfortunately, no. The Filament should have arrived here yesterday according to Canada Post but it's still not here. I expect it to arrive tomorrow. The printer is all ready to go, though!

Totally open to suggestions! I'm going to have a whole line of custom parts for our trucks pretty soon.

Also met with an electrical engineer that I've done some home audio work for recently. He's going to help me with the schematic and circuit board design for the all-in-one iPad to car integration piece that I'll be producing in the near future. It's going to be programmable to fit different types of vehicles and should be less expensive and less complicated than using an actual head unit. Very exciting!

So the 3d printer is not panning out. I'm going to need to take several steps to make it print an iPad kit correctly, but even then it will take about 40 hours to print one kit. I won't be using it to make kits regularly, but I will likely use it to make prototypes to refine my 3d design (which was surprisingly close to begin with) and explore options for injection molding after I expand my application to more vehicles.

So after a few days of getting the printer up and running and waiting for two failed prototypes to print (16 hours each) I put that idea aside and got to work. It's been a long weekend but all 8 kits will be ready to ship with the next 5-7 days. The ones shown above are going to the paint shop tomorrow. I'm waiting for some epoxy to dry on one more, and the other three are a new type of kit that I do not wish to reveal until they are %100.

Again, huge thanks to all of you that have been waiting patiently for your iPad kits. I'll still be using the 3d printer to make other products for our trucks, and you can all expect a freebie as a token of my gratitude. There have also been some improvements to the hand made kits in this batch that I'm sure you will all appreciate.

Yeah going from research I have done on 3d printing these trim panels would be a tricky thing to print. You might try different orientations of the item so that you don't need as much support material on all the overhangs but I don't know how large the build volume of your printer is. Another option would to use it to just print out brackets to help hold the TABLETS (cough cough)in position better or the plugs that go into them. Hell, now you could print off tablet dummies... Those would be pretty easy prints.
