Sorry, I don't understand, front or rear loading what? Add radio, no steering wheel controls, add AUX in, add USB in.

Edit # 2: For any of you non-steering wheel control users, how are you controlling the volume of the iPad? I am a long time Spotify user and love the program. However, after installing this beautiful iPad piece into my truck, obviously the volume buttons on the iPad are inaccessible and the remote control supplied with the Sony head unit does not work with the iPad blocking its line of sight ability..

I downloaded the Sony SongPal app and it does allow me to Bluetooth my phone to the head unit, and then use Spotify "Connect" which allows me to use my phone to control the volume (while having a pre-set high end volume with which to use as a baseline for the buttons on the phone), however, the connection between the phone and the iPad is slow and glitchy, taking quite a while to set everything up to connect the devices via hotspot and sync up, sometimes not at all.

If I were to just listen to the iPad through the head unit via USB cable that is built into the kit, there is simply no way to control the volume as both the stereo and iPad volume buttons are obviously inaccessible. Does anybody out there have an app or other work around for this issue?

Also, what other various apps do you guys use with your set ups?

OK, I just read through the entire thread. I worked all day and then had a couple of cocktails.

Shane I sent you an email from louis.goldblatt@comtrancorp.com. I did not mention I want a front loader. I am the most basic person when it comes to electronics. I need everything involved to make my truck work like it is stock, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, volume control, all of that good stuff. I also need the most idiot-proof directions. If you can give me that, I can give you money and gratitude for an awesome product.

Just to be clear, I can run the Sirius App at all times while driving and listen to that, right? Like I said, I am basic, I haven't downloaded music since Napster was free.

    Thanks!

Buy steering wheel controls and done. It's not a bad job to put it in. And about 50.00 for the module itself.

Hmmm, Ive been wondering if that was possible? Would it be replacing the whole wheel, or is it a separate set that attaches to current wheel?

I was losing the stoke over this issue, but I just got one of the OBD II scanners and the DashCommand App and it is super rad! Totally re-ignited the stoke!

??? What no. It attached to the radio and then the old wiring harness to go to your steering wheel controls.

haha oh I gotcha, I misunderstood your first message. I have the non JBL system, so no controls on the steering wheel. Wasnt aware of this being an issue when I purchased this system way back when. I was a very early buyer, just was out working all summer and just finally got it installed after it sat waiting for months!

I don't think having JBL has anything to do with it. I think it's just an added feature. I don't have them either so I'm gonna put my headunit in a place I can still get to the controls

Well sorry Ive never had the steering wheel controls in any of the taco's Ive had so for some reason I thought they were associated with the JBL system.

If you go with the sony unit that shane suggests there is an app for the ipad that does all the controls the head unit generally would.

Its what I had in mine until I sold it

I didn't want to go out and buy a new headunit. I scored a single din pioneer in exchange to do BHLM on someone's headlights

By the way if anyone is on the edge of doing this, go for it. Shane makes a great product and is awesome with customer service, goes above and beyond.

My kit survived everything I threw at the truck and then some.

On a side note, I took my ipad out daily and there wasn't any issues with wear and tear on the kit.

I just sent you an email Shane. I'm considering using an iPad mini as an upgrade to the OEM JBL system in my 2009 Tacoma. I'm interested in your response as I have concerns about XM radio functionality and how the aftermarket Sony head unit will work with the OEM JBL amp...

Yeah I got the sony unit as well, the MEX-N5100BT, and after searching forever found the app (they only have the app for iphone, and i had to alter the search parameters on the ipad to find them).

Im having an issue with the app however as it refuses to bluetooth connect to the headunit, and after reading the manual it says only compatible with ipod and iphone. How did you get around this issue? Ive tried to connect at least 25-30 times and gave up as everything I have ever used BT with before connected really easy.

All that aside, the work done by Shane is immaculate nonetheless and it is a top of the line product with exceptional follow up and customer service and for that, I cannot thank him enough!

Hey y'all, I just ordered this kit a couple months ago. It's a rear loading kit black in color. I'm looking to sell the entire setup with steering wheel control module and Sony head unit for behind iPad. All ya need is iPad mini. PM me for more details.
