There's a user on here with an indash iPad who found a part that will let you run gps without data. I think it's over Bluetooth though

Thinking going that route too and just connect it when offroad for offroad maps. GPS from the 4g iPad works without data so I can have GPS signal on road from the iPad and just use the Blootooth GPS when iPad gets weak signal.

That's a pretty good idea. They also have an inclinometer app I use on my iPad while wheeling that will probably be even nicer with an indash setup

Oh lord... Words can't express how happy this thread makes me. I started a thread 2 years ago asking if anyone had integrated in and various people would chime in and try stuff out, but never got anything in the works. I already have a iPad mini with cellular connection, so this definitely has my attention!!!

Thank you for creating this! Hope to be doing business with you soon!

I'm going to use a Garmin GLO for $99 to get offline GPS capabilities with my iPad mini setup. This particular device uses American GPS and Russian GLONASS satellites to determine its position - It should be more accurate and get better "coverage" (in theory) than regular GPS. I'll use some adhesive velcro to mount it somewhere out of the way, then hardwire power to it. I'm hoping that it will automatically connect to the iPad via Bluetooth when I turn the truck on and power everything on. I'll then use Garmin StreetPilot as the daily-driver navigation app, and Gaia GPS for offroading.

It's a similar device to the one mentioned above (The XGPS150A GPS Receiver for $83.99), but with specs more comparable to the better model - The XGPS160 SkyPro GPS Receiver for $149.
