Here in California the person that you buy the vehicle from is responsible for it passing emissions test. Check the DMV laws where you live and see if yours is the same
Who is responsible for smog check when selling a car in California?
If the vehicle is over 4 years old, it is the seller's responsibility to provide proof of a current smog certification unless the a smog certification was submitted within the past 90 days. Proof of smog certification is not required if the title to the vehicle is being transferred within a family.
California DMV Regulations for Selling Cars | DMV.ORG......Oh "over 4 years" Hmmm?

You still have a 5 year drive train warranty. Just no bumper to bumper warranty

I would check if the check engine light even lights up, every light on the dash should light up when you start the truck and if it doesn't then somebody pulled the bulb so you wouldn't know

I personally would start by taking it back where you bought it first. Then go from there.

I bought my 2017 with 15,000 miles on it. I took it to Toyota for the 25k free service with no problem and just this week I took it to Toyota for the AC/Heater blower fan and it was covered under warranty. I would start by taking it to Toyota.

'Ready' is often #of keystarts, not miles driven.

The ECU has been recently reset for some reason. Could be as simple as a battery disconnect for some service work.

As others have said, you should still have full Toyota warranty. Call the dealer you'll use, give them the Vin, and they'll confirm for you before you make your appointment.

But I'm betting tonights Diet Coke there is nothing wrong.

I'd agree but in my experience 800 miles is way more than enough to get the cycles to ready. Usually doesn't take my vehicles more than 80 or 100.

I had a similar experience with a used 1999 Ford Mustang with approximately 40,000 miles purchased from a non Ford dealer in 2003.
I took it in for the smog test several times in one month while attempting to drive longer trips just to put miles on the vehicle and the report kept reading “not ready” each time.
There were no warning or check engine lights illuminated.
A friend suggested disconnecting the battery to reset the system, so I did that one evening and reconnected the battery the next morning.
I drove the vehicle for a couple of days, then took it in for the test again and it passed.

you are going to look under the truck and find the previous owner cut out the CAT and jacked you.....Toyota wont cover that and I hope that's not the case, but....

When I was in nc I had to get our spare chevy’s inspected and each had a dead battery. The ECU required a certain number of “drive cycles” to get all systems to pass.

So google Toyota drive cycle, follow it to the letter 3-5 times and you should be good to go. But with 800 miles on it and not disconnecting/dead battery, you should have been good.

Toyota’s usually always take a while to get monitors ready. You really have to get the cats hot for them to set. Best advice is go out and drive it hard and fast, honestly just basic driving won’t get them to set for a long time. Odds are the battery died or was disconnected before it was sold. All the toyota dealership will do is have someone drive it, because more then likely, nothing is wrong

Have you replaced your battery recently or disconnected the negative battery terminal recently? The “not ready” comments make it sound like a recent reset. Once the ECU has been reset it takes a few warm up/cool down cycles for the systems to run their checks

In that case, I bet he would have a valid argument that the dealership sold him a car that wouldn’t pass inspection knowingly.

(He was just have to prove it wasn’t him)

    That's just gold right there.

Tons of cars emitting CO2 in the line for an inspection that checks for excessive CO2 emissions.

Last time I went it took 15-20 minutes for an inspection, 4 cars were in front of me when I got there and when I left 4 cars were behind me. For whatever reason it seems like the MA inspections are taking a long time to get done this year.

15-20 min is a long time? Out emissions is done with our year state inspection. It’s required the vehicle have a visual inspection, put in the air, pull a wheel off to inspect brakes and then put on the scanner, to run monitors and codes. Then you scrap the old stickers off and replace with the new sticker. I don’t think that’s a long time to wait at all. Perhaps your state is different with their checks but 20 min once a year or every other isn’t really a hassle

I agree it doesn't seem long for 1 car, but when you have 4 or 5 people in front of you it's a long time to wait. Idk just feels like it used to take 5 or 10 minutes but not anymore. MA is pretty strict, they pull it in, do a visual inspection, plug it in to check all the codes, basically all of what you just said.

My wife went to OSU and they didn't do regular inspections in Ohio AFAIK.

I don't think you can access these cats by just laying under the truck like you could on the 2nd gens

What dealership sells a vehicle without doing an emissions test? How did they get you plates if it was due for emissions?
