It almost doesn't matter what the dealer offer was. Unless it was under 10K it would be better for the seller to take the dealer offer along with the tax break vs the dealer offer plus $500.

Not all 3rd gen guys... my truck is fine and isn't going anywhere because I don't need a new one. But if I did need a new truck tomorrow I'd buy a new 4th gen before a used (or even new) 3rd gen.

I ended up getting a good deal for my 3rd gen 17 with over 100000 miles from a Toyota dealer here and got a new 24 that was almost identical to my 17 for a little over 20 . Deal was that I had to put all the factory accessories back on it to get it back stock before the trade in . :D :spending:

Me personally I dont buy used .. you have no actual history what the vehicle has been threw… I would just go for the new 4th gen plus u have a warranty . Avoid the headaches and get new .

Coming from a 2013 Tundra I had no skin in the game either way. You can pro/con and measure dicks all day long. Nobody can say 1 will be more reliable than the other. Bottom line have him do a real test drive of the gen 3&4 and not just around the block, he’ll decide what’s really right for him.

My '23 was OK in terms of build quality, but it had 4-5 recalls in the 12 months that I owned it. When prices went up this spring, was happy to rid myself of it. Still have a 2G regular cab 4x4 to fulfill my Taco itch.
