Oh man, that's hilarious but not really. Things happen but hourly mechanics rush and the details can be missed pretty easily. I have known several 'well regarded' specialist mechanics that I would never let touch any of my cars. Or any mechanic for that matter, never used one.

That’s possible, either that or while the previous mechanic was doing the timing job.

I remember upgrading some cams on an old M3, big job, and I fired it up and just heard a unbelievable nasty mechanical sound that made me think I just roached a really expensive race motor. Nah. A damn socket fell and was riding behind the harmonic balancer. Heart rate dropped immediately once I saw it. Hehe. But after that I really watch the details. Got sloppy and it almost cost me.

It turned out the first mechanic was even more of an incompetent hack than I thought..

These are my texts with the new mechanic cleaning up the other guy’s mess.

Damn. "Way too tight" on the end of the crank isn't exactly good. What a shit show.

I may be wrong, but I thought the crank bolt was a one time use only. How expensive can it be to replace.

The truck is running and driving again after the washer begins the crank hear was removed, and the crank gear and sensor were replaced.

There is a whole business out there for used Japanese engines . I was just quoted $3700 installed for a four cylinder Honda. I went this route on an 85 Accord I had and it proved to be trouble free for 160,000 miles. Japan has no emmissions systems so they have to buy a new engine. Old engines are shipped elsewhere. You get an engine with 50,000 miles or so on it. If you do the work it might be the way to go. You get a long block so alternator, etc, is your old one.
