You know that motor oil is not naturally occurring and is derived from petroleum deposits several thousands of feet underground within bedrock which is either completely or mostly impermeable, right?

True story...this is the exact method my dad used to do when I was a kid...middle 1970s. I have 3 siblings, we all had cars, so there was like 5 cars in the household, and we did all our oil changes. This shown method actually worked great for the longest time...until one day, there came a huge rain storm. Oil rose up out of the "oil pit" and ran down the street!! HUGE mess. That was the last time we used the oil pit method.

I take my used oil to Walmart. They take as much as I have...usually 6 or 7 quarts. I put used filters in the recycle bin

Yep, it's crazy that people thought it was harmless back then. Kinda like how they used to think that cigarettes are good for you

Be careful people will think that you're being serious. After all, everything that we read on the internet is true

It breaks down and gets filtered until it reaches the earth's core, at which point it is vaporized, and condensed in the earth's crust and then we extract it again, it's basic science.

Knife makers use it for quenching during a blade's heat treatment. So, you could always pick up a new hobby.

Not really true. Humans discovered oil, because it bubbles up and oozes out of the ground in all kinds of places.

I’m a big fan of the whole ‘post apocalyptic’ genre of movies and novels. Stoked to be part of it, honestly.

You mean like how Jed Clampett shot the ground with his ole shotgun and up from the ground came a bubbling crude?

Not really, but there are multiple locations on earth with oil right at the surface. It was more commonplace, but most of those locations are the places that were most easily found and exploited. Downtown LA for instance.

No. Towboats dump their bilges in the river every night. It's what gives the flavor to those crayfish people from the south eat. Not to mention oysters. I'm really surprised people that eat that shit live as long as they do.
