I had a lawnmower that I never changed the oil in it. I just added whenever it needed it, the thing lasted 20 years and then one day it got real hot and exploded. The oil was thick as roof tar. New mower is now 10 years old, and has never had an oil change. Lawn mower's are cheap. Winning!!!

Sounds like me and a old Ford Ranger I use to own. It needed valve cover gaskets and I was so cheap I would just dump used motor oil in it.

Right on, junk is junk, we use or drive them until they die. I will admit that I do take very good care of things I want to keep. Just changed the oil in the Tacoma yesterday after a week in Moab. I did dispose of the oil correctly also.

I take it to Advanced Auto, I just walk in the back and dump it into their tank myself. The local Autozone acts like I'm ruining their day. One time I had some oil in old oil containers and a gallon in an old ice tea jug. The woman there said I wasn't allowed to dump oil from a "Non-oil jug" I asked why? and she said that "how would they know that it's really just motor oil in there?" I said "how do you know a used oil-jug contains "just motor oil?". She wasn't impressed with logic. To those who make jokes about dumping it into streams or in other places, etc. You should realize that people can't tell you're joking on the internet. Modern oil isn't crude oil that will become new oil someday. It has all sorts of toxins that will seep into the groundwater. It should be disposed of responsibly.

Obviously check with your city or county sanitation dept and ask them first. mid they can’t help, call a marina. An oil change on one of my boats is 15 gallons. At our marina there used to be a company who would take it for a small fee, but aound here if they sell it they have to take it back free so I bring the oil back to NAPA, they usually want to tell me 5 gallon max, but when I show them I bought it all there they have to take it all.

or find a NAPA near you, you may be able to get rid of 5 gallons at a time

I agree, so don't flush it down the toilet. That was a freaking joke.

Yeah you can contaminate someones well out in the country you don't like real easy. Out where I use to live in the country our well water reeked of sulfur and sewage smell. I only lived there about 8 months and I moved out and let the bank have the mobile home I financed thru them. I figured my well stank because of the turkey and hog farmers spreading shit on the fields next to me for years.

Our dump will take it. They have the bins around the hazardous waste area. No limits. I think that I have taken 50 quarts before when I have been lazy in getting it over there.

O.K. I assumed people who said that they dump it in the nearest stream on down a storm drain are joking. I find it hard to believe that someone would really do something that fucked up today. I'm old enough to remember what a filthy shithole most of the country was in the 60s and 70s before environmental laws and people started to care about something beyond their own backyard. If you were triggered by me suggesting they were not serious, then I apologize. If you are one of the people that said they just dump it in the water and you really do, do this. I suggest you document it, so your friends and family can be impressed with what a badass you are. If you were "joking" then how would anyone know that? Sarcasm and dry jokes don't really come through in print.

    Pro tip:

Pour the used oil into the containers you bought oil in. Take em back to the store and return them, free oil!

Healthy for the environment and your wallet.

There is a 0% chance that all these guys are just "joking" around. They are just saying that after getting called out for being a bunch of mouth breathers.

Go to Walmart at night and set your jugs of used oil in a chebby pick-up owners bed.
