I'm looking for either a used or remanufactured 3RZ motor for my dads Tacoma, its a 95 so would any 95-04 3rz work? I'm located in southern California.

There are differences in the years. Early 3rz had a distributor with built in cam sensor. Later, Toyota switched to coil packs and a cam sensor located on the side of the head.

I'm not sure of all the differences. Maybe someone else knows which years will fit a 95.5 and match the wire harness and computer.

No not any 3rz will work.

You'll need one with a distributor pack not coil packs. Emissions stuff changed as well in 01.

basically find one that is made for an early taco and you'll be good.

Could look at doing a V6 swap. You'll have to cut out the motor perches and mounts and weld in new ones. But worth the power upgrade if you can. Wiring should be straight forward but won't be fun.

    ^^ like Blackdawg said.

I can't say anything about the distributor models, but there are differences with the coil pack models as there are 4 port & 8 port versions. The 8 port are better from what I've found as I have the 4 port version. Supposedly have better performance and fuel mileage.

Look at LC's site. They do have various 3RZ's available.

    Good luck.

Oh yea that's right, it would have to be a 95-07 then.

If you're going to spend $3k on a new motor just throw an ls in there. I wouldn't pay that much for a replacement when there are some really great shops in SoCal like L & R engines in Sante Fe Springs that will rebuild that thing for less than $2400 - what they quoted me for my 5vz.

We aren't using the full 3k for the motor haha , we are using some of that for tires and stuff too

Also, what is the difference from the short block and long block? Is the stock block a short block?

Short block is just the block and lower end (pistons, crankshaft and maybe balancing shafts). Long block includes the block, lower end components and head already installed to the block. Stock is stock. You can get the stock engine in a short or long block. Just depends on if you want to reuse your old head.

My bad I was referring to the remanned options from Yotatech and LCE being upwards of $3k - too much for what you're getting if you have a good engine shop willing to do it for less since you're going to be yanking the engine out either way. Keep us updated.

This is the reason why spending money for a local rebuild is so important; who's going to yank an engine out of their vehicle and ship it back to a place that will *maybe* warranty their work after you pay for shipping? The likelihood of them ever having to fix their work is almost zero: https://www.yotatech.com/f208/apr-auto-care-230256/

    http://m.ripoffreport.com/reports/a...to-care-apr-auto-care-toyota-car-parts-634317

There's no substitute for an engine shop that knows what they're doing that is local to you with great customer feedback, reviews, and service. They will tell you what issues your engine could have been having and know how to put it together to be reliable.

Was not aware, I spoke to someone there recently, said they only want the head as a core return. Thanks for the post, I was actually about a check away from ordering a new "non toyota" 3rz from them. Im also trying to decided on who I will order from, or just drive the wifes car and do a rebuild.

You're welcome - I have been looking for awhile for a rebuilt engine that was less than a JDM swap that had good reviews and haven't found anything so far besides some good local shops that will be more expensive than a swap from a JDM engine importer - but that's for the 5vz which I guess is a little more common and thus almost half the price from the importer I'm looking at buying from.

I wonder where Marlin crawler sources their 3rz for swaps. Read an article in 4wdtoyotaowner about swapping to pickups.
