Im local to San Bruno Ca (Peninsula) and wanted to reach out to the NorCal TW community for some advice and suggestions regarding an engine replacement.

Any suggestions on where to find the best used/reman engine. (So far CL has had a few, but none really local)

Any suggestions either on a member, or a good shop for a decent priced install. This is my first taco and truck in general so im getting price quotes that range all over the place, so im trying to find the fair market price for a removal and install.

Not enough to have a build thread.
I specialize in ford diesels, so I have no real experience with Toyota remans, but I can say that most major engine remanufacturers have great warranties. LKQ is probably the cheapest place you will find a reman and I believe they have a 3 year, 100k warranty (might be unlimited mileage). Next option would be Jasper. Probably on the more expensive end, but with good reason. Less reused parts, same warranty, and I believe if you have to take it to a shop, they pay more of the labor rate (LKQ only pays 50/hr, the rest you have to pay out of pocket). Last but not least, Toyota. Most expensive reman, but more than likely will be built just like a new engine. And if anything goes wrong, take it to a Toyota dealer and they should cover the bill ($0 out of pocket assuming something goes wrong). I've used all these remans and had good luck. I've had more of a problem with Ford remans than anything. But in all fairness, I've probably done 10x or more Ford reman installs than Jasper or LKQ

Try this guy. www.catunedoffroad.com , he's in Sacramento, but probably a lot cheaper than any shop in the bay area. Buy a AAA membership (Plus membership @ $99, good four 100 mile tows) and ship your truck up to him. He can at least find you an engine on the cheap.

@FirstTimeFirstGen thank you very much for that info...thats exactly what i was looking for im regards to my questions

I have checked out all of the companies and websites you suggested and that 3yr/unlimited miles warranty seems pretty sweet and worry free ....

Now just searching for the cheapest or i should say best prices for the removal and install of the engine.

Definitely leaning towards jasper since they have numerous authorized dealers/shops that deal directly with them literally down the street from my house.

    Thanks again CHEERS

@TTT yes i will definitely be turning to AAA service if i have to tow anywhere of decent distance.

I would be willing to tow if the install price is super reasonable.
