Edwinalink, first off you're an idiot for asking this question on a TACO forum. Secondly, the question itself is stupid. The taco is more reliable. You can haul with the taco. you can get a 4x4 taco. you can get a V6 with the taco. The taco will have better resale value. The reason your afraid of buying used is cause look what you bought used.....a f-ing JEEP!!? Jeeps are made for guys who like to tinker. And they're always tinkering beause their jeeps are ALWAYS broken. How could you even consider a scion xB in the same realm as a taco. The only scion that my testicles would ever allow me to drive would be a newer tC. I don't even see how you narrowed it down to these two. such an easy decision. and i'm now done with my rant.

i dont know...but i would think a scion engine would be fairly reliable...at least more reliable than a big 3 product

and as much as i love my tacoma...id say get what suits your needs the best

if it means driving that jeep for a couple more months and then you can get the vehicle you WANT and it suits your needs...by all means

i just dont see how one can logically compare the two. it's apples and oranges. i'm not saying the xB is a piece of shit. it's just certainly not a tacoma. It'd be like debating whether to get a nissan sentra or a nissan frontier. the sentra isn't a piece of shit. but it will never match up to a frontier. How the hell did you ever narrow it down to a subcompact and a pickup anyway???

    1st post on tacoma woooooorld!!!
I am gonna help this confused soul with a post of mass destruction.

You should be asking yourself: do i want a car or a truck?

what do you do that you need a truck?
so far i've hauled a fridge, mountain bikes, skis, couch, and mexicans. I bought my truck when i was being interviewed by multiple railways and put into consideration that I may relocate up north where there is lots of snow. I am also camping in the bed this summer (+ tarp draped over=humble tent) for sand dunes and surfing.

ideally i wanted an H1 but reliability, price of parts and fuel....

if you aren't going to make use of your truck than you probably shouldn't get one.

none of scion's cars have ever been cool. the styling reaks of mediocrsy. i didnt even consider looking at them when i went car shopping.

if your afraid of reliability look up "kill toyota top gear" on youtube and watch all the parts. this video is hilarious.

get a "xxx point inspection" from an insurance company. make the seller do a lie detector and say if they pass you'll buy the car. check out the book "lemon-aid" so you don't buy used car models that notoriously break down. buying used cars is a good way to get better bang for you buck than new b/c you avoid the immediate depreciation.

in 2009 my pops found an automatic 2005 tacoma xtracab 4 cyl w/ 2000km on it for $12000 canadian and bought it off some old senior guy after he paid the insurance company to do the 3xx point inspection.

after i graduated school and got hired by the railway i purchased a 2007 loaded trd dbl cab 4x4 w/ 29000km that came with extended warranty till 2015 and some exhaust system that rumbles for $29000 cdn owner direct, instead of buying new for $47000 (what he paid) plus gst and all that other shit.

check out reviews from car magazines and websites. I got this graph from C+D that compared the tacoma against explorer/frontier/ and one other and it killed them in every category (accel, brake, fuel econ). The canadian truck king challenge awarded this truck best midsize.

I don't like the driver arm rests, front window isn't big enough, and the positioning of the front handle bars. I'm questioning how long the jbl speakers will last.

I like the styling, 0-60, reviews, reliability, seats, interior finish, and the instrument panel.

why does he "deserve" a scion?

because he's trying to make a decision about what would fit his needs and what would fit his wants? and if what would fit his wants would fit his needs too?

I don't know what you're trying to say.

The votes are 17:1 in favor of the Tacoma and he still isn't sure which he should choose. He also admitted he don't want something used but can't afford a new tacoma and won't haul anything.

I would not be caught dead in a scion but the OP clearly don't feel that way. Therefore they're a match made in heaven and they deserve each other.
