Look into tundra....if you think you'll be towing in the future buy once cry once. Personally I'd look into new Silverados or F150 ecoboost if full size.

The low end Torque and throttle response on the third gen is highly criticized.

Had you been in northern Louisiana I could have hooked you up with two great people, one from each dealer within a 20 mile radius.
Oh well, best bet is to compare other prices new and used in whatever area you want to shop in, and just go from there. You can use KBB, or NADA, those are usually good stsrting points.

Sunroof is kinda a trade off as i was going with a jeep and decided i wouldnt take the hard top off much and the soft top wasnt happening as i drive to the middle of nowhere and park my truck then kayak miles away sometimes. plus loading on off a jeep would be a pain without a trailer.

A boat is probably a few years away unless its something small which the truck should handle. Multiple kayak setup may come soon though.

I would kelly blue book and NADA the value for both your trade and the new vehicle. Go in knowing what each is worth. Then negotiate the pricing on each individually. If you haven't mentioned your trade yet, I wouldn't until you lock in the price for the truck. At this point just keep dodging their trade in questions saying you are just gonna use this truck for hunting/fishing. Talk whole numbers out the door all fees included. Monthly payments and crap are where they make your head spin. If they want to keep adding in their BS document fee then write that into the total you are negotiating.

For a simple example, if they are saying $32,000 + $500 doc fee that equals $32,500 out the door. Then write down your offer as such: $28,500 + $500 doc fee = $29,000 and circle that number. Now your negotiations have that doc fee included, if that makes sense. This only works with the doc fee as if your state charges tax at the point of sale (which I think LA gives you the option to?) then that obviously is a percentage. If that is true then just keep the taxes out of it until the end. I think LA also gives you credit for your trade in towards taxes so you only pay the difference.

After you negotiate the price of the truck then mention to them that you could be persuaded to trade in your current vehicle. Start the process of negotiating the price for the trade in, but talk numbers for the trade in only. Don't let them start effing with the truck price during this part.

Next if you were buying new would be to mention rebates you qualify for. However, since you are buying used you can skip that part.

These are the steps I took and I was able to negotiate a 13% discount off MSRP on my truck, I was buying new though.

Good luck man! These kind of negotiations are never fun but just remember to stick it out as a few hours could save you thousands.

SE Louisiana as in New Orleans? I'm in Mobile, AL. Cool man. So your gonna trade in the Camaro for a Tacoma and sell the Colorado right? I agree with Smitty and say you should go full-size. Mid 30's would get you a great Sierra, F-150, or Tundra especially if you gonna be towing.

If you got your heart set on a 3rd gen I get it but I've got over 45k on my 2015 and I have not seen a single check engine light nor seen any recall mail of any kind!

Thanks. I was thinking the same. The DOC fee is 200 max in Louisiana.

They tried to convince me to get in a 2017 with 7k miles. they got it to 38.5 ans i then hit them with the fact that they pay less than that for a brand new one.

    And heated seats :spy:

First gens had sunroofs and nice bolstered seats with adjustable lumbar support.

I agree with smitty99 on this one beware what you are signing up for. I love my 2017 Tacoma but it has been far from problem free. I personally love working on my own vehicles and fixing issues on my own.

If you do not and want to tow I would go with a full size truck. They would probably be more reliable.

Just to throw this out there, before I ordered my pro I was looking at a brand new '16 quicksand limited 4x4 for $38k. I would consider a new truck unless you just put a whole lot of miles on it. Tacomas hold value so we'll that it's almost better to just buy new imo.

Son is looking for a 2013 - 2015 Tacoma so we have both been searching ads. Lots of over priced 2015s around here. He is being patient and making offers $1-$2k below list prices. Patience is key. I would sell at least 1 of your current vehicles yourself. Limited could make your search tougher.

I'm in Baton Rouge. I looked for awhile and didn't really find any good deals on 4X4 Tacomas. I'm okay buying used, but they want stupid money for one with 125K on the clock here.

They also don't want to deal here. We contacted around 25 different dealerships telling them what we were looking for: SR5, DC, 4X4, V6, with Tow as the only add on. No black, blue, white. We got a few hits and ended up buying from a dealership in Moss Point, MS for $29,900 before TT&L.

I got callbacks later and even had one dealership tell me I was lying about what I paid.
