Currently, I am in the market for a used 20 Tacoma sport for my nephew's first car. Started looking end of May and it appears nothing is selling on the dealership's used lot. Using my 21 Off Road as a reference I think everything is overpriced 4-5k. The Cravana trade-in value of my truck is $33.288 and stealership have similar ones for 41k. I have noticed the prices have dropped 1-2k over the last 30 days. I'm going to wait another 30-60 days to pull the trigger if the prices drop another 2-3k.

If you think dealership prices are bad go check out the 3rd gen FS section. Dude wanting $54,000 for his base TRD OR with a lift.

Dealerships have to make money too. It should be no surprise to see about 10k higher from the dealership than an estimated trade value. But also be prepared for them to haggle you on that.

Dealers don't lose money. When they say that prices are dropping, they are dropping on trade allowances first then the dealers will sell them for less. The greedy bastards don't care if a car sits.

Actually, dealers care very much if cars sit.

And OP, I think prices will continue to decline and return back to normal. Waiting longer I’m sure will bring it down more. Gone are the days of trading in your vehicle and getting a ton of cash back for it like during covid.

Actually no they don't. They will let it sit rather than lose money.

Spring of 2022, my son is looking for a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Came across a 2012, SR5, 4WD, Pyrite Mica (my fave color) ~60K miles. They were asking $34K. Told them it wasn't that much new. It was gone in less than a week. From what I've seen, it hasn't changed much.

Pretty much. I have the same truck but with Premium, Advanced, LEDs, and a bunch of PIO and think mine is worth $40,000 on a good day (granted I don’t have the $1,400 lift kit but I do have several other goodies). Maybe he will luck out though and find some misinformed shopper. I was telling my dad if someone offered me $54,000 for mine I don’t think I could take it because you can’t find a replacement. But I could go TRD Pro I suppose if someone was dumb enough to pay that much!

I worked for a dealer that treated used cars like fruit on a tree. When it’s ripe, it’s gotta go. If it sits they lose money because the car is depreciating.
They would “pack” a car….meaning regardless of what the car sells for the first 600 dollars went to the “house”.
My truck sat on a lot for 97 days, they dropped the price by 5K on the 98th day. That was when I pounced on it.

The used market is currently dropping rapidly and it’s going to continue to get much worse.(better for you) be patient and wait until they get desperate- that time is coming quickly. These are what the offers are starting to look like for wholesale used.

Yeah from what I’ve seen… it’s changed quite a bit- you have to expand your search area.
