Today I purchased a beautiful new-to-me Taco, a black 05 TRD Off Road 4x4 access cab with 67,000 miles from a Honda dealer. I paid $15,700, which is a good price around here. The sales manager pitched me pretty hard to buy a CareGard extended warranty, the performance plus coverage for engine, tranny, axle, transfer case, steering, suspension, electrical, AC, heating/cooling system, and fuel system. The cost would be about $1,500 for two years/24k mi.

Does anyone have experience with these used car warranties or with CareGard? Any opinions about them welcome.

I paid $2100 for mine. I have the same coverage but for 100K and 5yrs. i thought that was well worth it. I used it for the first time today acctually

$1,500 for 2 yr/24K mile seems like a rip-off to me. I paid $600 for 5 yr/60K when I bought new, and I know others have gotten it even cheaper.

Take the 1500 and put it in the bank. Was it an as-is sale from Honda & if so did you get it checked out before buying? Sounds like a nice truck, post pics when you can, welcome to the forum!

The car was checked out and it seems in very fine condition. Also, this is my second Gen II Taco, and so I'm familiar with how it should feel.

You give me a new option: If I want a used car warranty, see if there is one at the nearest Toyo dealer. That gives me three options: Get the CareGard from the Honda dealer; Don't add to the debt/pocket the dough; or see if I can get a warranty from the Toyo dealer.

    Thanks for your responses.
