Going to look at a used Tacoma Tomorrow that I posted about - a 2017 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 V6 SR5 6A Auto with 85,000 miles on it - It hit the road Oct 31 2016, so 31 months old.

Is there anything particular that I should look for? How can I confirm if it has a trans cooler? How long do wheel bearings last?

Look forward to the test drive.

    Thanks.

I would wait for a lower mileage truck to pop up for one. Also, manuals don’t have a trans cooler and you can always look up pics of the trans cooler so you know how to identify the part if applicable. One more thing... The pic you posted is what looks like a Sport. Let us know if you buy one!

This truck is an auto - if the price is right, and the trade is right, I may pull the trigger.

If it has the towing package it’ll have a mini radiator looking component in front of the actual radiator. You can locate it by opening the hood and looking straight down behind the grille. The miles are higher, but I wouldn’t worry about wheel bearings and what not. It’s only two years old, they generally go a couple years without causing issues. Look at the rear diff to make sure it isn’t leaking and at the front engine engine cover where all the belts are, those seem to be hotspots for leaking fluids in the 3rd gens. There is a plethora of 3rd gens with lower miles, but if the price is right is personally go for it.

    Phew ~42,000 miles/year?

    I'd pass on that, personally.

Thanks, I will check those spots out. Up until 2 years ago, I put that many miles on myself, averages out to 2,700 miles a month.

I will see how good the trade is, being that my Dodge is low miles, I will still get decent trade value for it, will beat the price down a bit.

It should have a trans cooler on it.
It’s in the front of the truck running perpendicular to the crash bar I believe. Just a long left to right running tube with heat dissipaters on it (behind the lower opening on the grille). It’s just a tube the fluid runs through to cool off. Just like the fins you see in the extrusion of a light bar.

As far as miles, pretty sure they were mostly highway. These truck should last a lot longer. Fluid flushed should always be done IMO. Coolants, maybe brake fluid if not fairly soon, spark plugs checked and other routine maintenance stuff checked. If it’s a good deal i don’t see why not. And yes, There will always be a better deal out there In the world.

Take a look at the carfax , oil changes and no reported accidents . Like post 5 said make sure nothing is leaking and check for a wet back seat .

From a financing standpoint, buying new is always going to be better in terms of interest rate. Aside from that, my personal concern would be that of the stewardship by the previous owner. As a rule, I prefer not buying a truck used. Sure, Toyota engines are very dependable when properly maintained, but is that the case for the TRD Sport you are considering?

To be fair, it is a good looking rig with a nice long bed (something I wish I had with my current truck on occasion). Here's hoping that you get a fair deal on whatever you end up buying.

Nice looking truck, looks like a TRD Sport, I have the same truck. I’m very happy with it, I did end up going with a new one though. I found the used ones regardless of mileage were only a few thousand cheaper. Low mileage, or high mileage didn’t seem to make a difference in the price where I live. Might be worth holding out for another one unless you get a really good deal on it. There are a a few members on here with much higher miles than that who said they’ve had 0 issues with their trucks, so not really an issue.

I just built a new one online, stickers off at $42,400 plus taxes and financing.

With Tarrifs and our weak dollar, I’d be saving a ton going used.

I got a leftover 18', it was around $40,000 before the taxes and fees, used 17's and 18's are here with 60-100,000km were all selling for $37-38,000 . I'm sure I would have saved 5k+ easy going with the used one but I'm happy knowing what I got.

This is Cad, your in Canada as well aren't you OP?

How much are they asking? Also, Carfax won't show everything, even accidents sometimes. Id see how much they want for it. 85k miles is a lot.
