Make sure it hasn’t been in an accident, check for rust, make sure it hasn’t been off road. If it’s 10k-12k off original sticker price it’s a good deal. Original sticker was probably 36-39 depending if it has premium and tech package.

Where do you live? My 19 OR MT base with a couple little things was 35k out the door.

Ontario Canada. A quick trip to the MTO will reveal any accidents - anything over $1,000 in damage must be reported to the police.

it’s $12,000 cheaper than new, going to haggle on it. Should do well on my Ram, has 34,000 miles on it.

Some of the blue trucks have had an issue with the clear coat so look closely at the paint. Also look closely at the third brake light to be sure it’s not cracked as many were over tighten at the factory and it causes leaks onto the headliner. With that high of mileage I’d ask for a 100K extended warranty as well.

You are taking a hit on the RAM with 34k miles to trade for a 85k mile Tacoma?

I bought the Ram used, so the hit should be minimal, I saved $19,000 when I bought it, was a lease return.

Dont need a fullsize anymore, nor do i want the post warranty hemi issues, constant manifold warping, MDS lifter failures.

Post warranty Rams have Zero trade value, unless it has a Cummins under the hood.

I traded my 14 ram hemi in for a used lifted 17 sport 4x4. Both trucks had leaking 3rd brake lights, the ram had numerous safety recalls, exhaust manifold broken studs, and the tacoma had the front timing cover leak which I had repaired under warranty already. The ram had a much better ride quality honestly and obviously tons of power and better gas mileage somehow(had 35s and lifted). I think they are both good trucks and each has its own issues so it's really about what you want more and what you will be doing with it. Not sure if I could go back I would repeat my trade purely for the highway speed comfort. The ram was a cloud at 80mph and the tacoma is a passenger seat shaking, sexy as hell, head turning, sob. There's my 2 cents

Thanks. Was reading up on the timing cover leak, sounds like its a hit and miss deal.

I love the Taco’s, don’t need a fullsize anymore. Want a Double cab long bed.

Will give this a thorough look.

    Thanks.

Can you sell your RAM yourself -- I don't know how dealer trades vs. private sales are in Canada -- , but usually the average private sale vs. dealer trade here in the US nets the seller 2500-3500 more money in their pocket! That money is the reason most car dealers stay in business -- they make way more on used trade-ins.

From my feeble research -those blue paint defects (they are BAD) have shown themselves only on a batch of 17's made in Mexico.
Trouble is Toyota KNOWS DAMED WELL WHICH ONES THEY ARE, but they have not made this public!!!

Look at the power steering pump area. Thats where the oil leak is. I had mine repaired under warranty it wasn't a big deal its fine now. If there's an extended warranty option negotiate that in possibly if you have any concerns. It's saved my but already

Traded in my Ram Rebel for my new Tacoma. Miss the power, comfort and tech but didn’t miss the recalls and bad gas mileage! It had a recall almost every month is seemed, I didn’t buy the extended warranty and started to get scared as the miles added up as I read about massive failures to the factory air ride. Love the Tacoma just wish it had power and a little more room but what can you do! :notsure:

Why is everyone afraid of the mileage? That many miles in that period of time indicates highway driving. Much better than stop and go driving in terms of wear and tear. With proper maint these trucks ought to go 200,000 miles plus.

Every TRD starts life as an SR5, then at some point in the assembly line process matures it into a TRD Sport, a TRD Offroad, or a TRD Pro. Or it just stays in diapers and lives its life as an SR5.
