    I won't quote everybody here as too many but thanks for the valuable information!!
    It's not usually cheaper, but working at the airport has its benefits as I CAN get it cheaper.
    The theory I was working on was from the idea that people were seeing better mpg from 87 non-ethanol or 89 compared to the 10-15% corn stuff most of us are forced to put into our . So the thought was adding a small quantity of AVgas to compensate for the decreased energy production of the 10% stuff. Someone mentioned above that the ecu changes or calibrates the variables based on what's being put in the cylinder.
    Guess burning up the cat. con. isn't worth it.

    Duuuuuuuude.........don't be a retard. Pump gas station gas into your tacoma (any octane) and airport gas into your Cessna or Piper.

    Easy peasy

    Your waaay over thinking it......just go to your local gas station and fill your Taco with your choice of whatever

    Rule of thumb run the LOWEST octane your engine can run without pinging and knocking. It allows for the fastest flame speeds and therefore the most complete combustion and power.

    That being said SOME high octane fuels have a much higher btu rating which equates to more power. I am speaking about race fuels as I don't have direct data for av gas.

    So why higher octane? Knocking / pinging is a result of pre-ignition before the spark (i.e. Diesel engines). So higher octane helps to retard ignition and flame speeds to eliminate pre-ignition. Higher octane does NOT guarantee more power and can actually result in less power in some cases due to retarded flame speeds and incomplete combustion.

    I would focus more on finding a gas station that doesn't sell E10.

    They're getting harder and harder to find but they're still out there.

    I use archoil ar6200 to help correct the negative effects of E10.

    At the end of the day, unless you're tuning the engine, plan on adding timing, and want to resist detonation, there's no point in using a higher octane than the manufacturer recommends.
