Fluid flim does cost less per can, but i think you might get a smaller can, plus if you plan to keep your truck several years fluid flim will end up being more expensive than cosmoline. Like mentioned fluid flim has to reapplied every year. Imo, your not saving anything.

It might be overkill for me, but i find cosmoline doesn't last significantly longer than FF, def not 2 years worth, so i find i end up re-applying CRC on a yearly basis (usually late fall before the winter) along with the FF

The rp-342 cosmoline i used crept into everything just like fluid flim, so idk whats up when you say that. Never use fluid flim over a cosmoline done chassis...you'll end up with a continuous dripping mess like a buddy of mine did. As far as cosmoline on any rubber, or plastic....the cosmoline people i spoke with claim its ok, but imo avoid it if possible. As far as brakes and exhaust, you don't want any rust inhibitor there period. I was very careful when doing the brake vacuum plates on my truck.

I've used fluid flim on my past truck, its good for a winter. I used cosmoline 2 years ago on my tacoma, and its held up very well. I had to do a couple very minor touchups worth less than 10 minutes on the truck earlier this month. I live in new england where salt is widely used for about 1/2 the year.

I agree. The cosmoline is very fluid out of the can and creeps very well before it sets up.

I thought the problem in that case was trying to put cosmoline over fluid film not the other way around. I sprayed my brand new truck with cosmoline (Amsoil HD metal protector) and followed up with fluid film after it dried. No problems at all. I reapply fluid film every fall.

I fluid film my track with 3-4 cans every year, and then drive it all on the beach all summer. 5 years in and I have very minimal rust. Stuff will get everywhere though so don't apply it on your nice clean driveway.

Well if you tried that with cosmoline rp-342 and let it dry, then sprayed it over with fluid flim, you'd have a messy reaction having a dripping oily mess that would not dry...its a no,no. I don't know what the amsoil is, but its not really cosmoline if you can spray fluid flim over it, and it dries.

This is what I am going to put on my truck when it arrives! I read up on this stuff extensively and this definately looks like the winner! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZr4qoKGfXs

I live in Michigan and the the local thread spooked me into doing it, I used woolwax rattle cans. It’s thick and gets everywhere. You can see it if you zoom in. Applied it thicker on more vulnerable spots.

As far as using cosmoline inside rocker panels of the tacoma, i had no issues as was claimed in the video of it blocking the weep holes. He even admitted cosmoline goes on very thin. It dripped out of my rocker panels, and stained my driveway. Imo, cosmoline is more of a distaste for him because it gets his shop dirty thats very difficult to clean after using it, plus using cosmoline you don't have repeat customers every year.

If one has rust already, best that its removed best as possible first. A wire brush, and drill works well. Now, get a rust converter like rustoleum, and go over it. Once dry use a good black chassis paint over it. After thats dry you can use cosmoline, or fluid flim. I did my 48'' mower deck like that a few years back that was getting old, and rusty. Just some fluid flim every year now, and its still looking good.

Salt Away, been using it for years, Lived in Michigan and now Wisconsin. I apply it a few times a year, undercarriages are virtually rust free. I had a 2006 X5 with over 200K miles, all in Michigan, had to have an alignment done, Mechanic said all the adjustments were easily made due to no rust. And Salt Away is cheap. Can use it on almost anything.

I bough the 5gal bucket ($150), a spray gun ($40) and run it with my medium air compressor. I'm at about $20/application.

This is a helpful video, which others have mentioned above. I used Wool Wax and it has held up well in Michigan for two years. I'm going to use Surface Shield going forward based on this video.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
It's in the "Trade Secret" section.

I happen to be privy to some of their secret information and I can tell you that they guarantee "One entire Sheep in a can."

If you mean fluid flim, it adds up having to be applied every season if in the rust belt. So far with cosmoline its been one and done for under $100.
