Like I said dude, I don't know what your doing, but fluid film is chemically inert and has no solvents which means it can't dry.

It gets really slushy/salty here in mid-Michigan and the taco looks like it was misted and then rolled in crushed salt by the end of a work week. So far, I have not had Wool Wax wash off anything other than the bottom facing frame rails (and not completely off) and the front control arms. I have used FF before and it absolutely does wash off on any area that just gets wet/salty in general.

Have you ever tried cosmoline in Michigan? Just wondering if that would last 2 years up there.

The first time I undercoat I use wool wax, when I touch up every year I use the fluid film. I also fluid film every time I work on the truck in the general area of the job. Same thing on my wife's rav4, 07 still with minimal rust.

I have not. I’ve heard good things overall, but after reviewing a lot of products, I liked the Wool Wax option best. It doesn’t dry like Cosmoline, but it also doesn’t drip. And although it collects dust, it’s a superficial layer that I don’t mind. When it comes time to remove bolts, there are no issues with having to break through rust.

Not true. I power wash my trucks underside every spring. The water beads off. When dry I touch areas and it's still there. So people that say puddles, rain , snow, slush wash it away they are wrong. Also people saying it attracts dirt and makes a mess, 5 6 7 years later you can wash your underside with Dawn and a good mitt and the underside will look factory mint. Try to do that with cosmoline.

Michigan sounds same as here. I can claim without a doubt cosmoline will hold up fine after 2 years. I had a couple very minor touchup places on the rear leaf's that took less than 10 minutes, and i drive on some really crappy dirt roads year round. Someone would need to prove to me there's something better.

I just power washed my underside heavy within the last week. I will get a video tomorrow to show that there is still plenty of fluid film remaining. It might not be shiny and gooey like when I applied it but it is 100% still on and protecting. And it's now spring. No salt all summer. I will reapply next fall and so on and so on. I'm not saying one coat and done. I'm saying if you put it on good you are fine all winter Long with no worries until next winter.

Fluid Film does not dry because it it 95%+ petroleum, says right on the spec sheet.

Lanolin maybe 1%? Maybe less? cant believe they get away with selling it as “lanolin based” implying thats the main ingredient.

    Facts.

You right i won't buy fluid flim any more for my truck. Between all the water, and crap they treat the roads with it doesn't last. For small jobs I keep a rattle can of it for my mower deck every year. i spray it on every spring. It lasts about a season.

Be interesting to mix some salt with that power wash, and letting it dry that way with no further clean water to wash that spray away. Lets see how you fluid flim holds up after a couple weeks. I can tell you with cosmoline i've haven't washed the underside of my truck for weeks, and its fine. The cosmoline coating wasn't affected by salt, or the other de-icing spays they treat the roads with here making them white during the winter.

You are just dying to win. I drove 3 Massachusetts Salt and brine covered roads. This state has a use it or lose it mentality. Meaning they load the salt and brine down as much as possible. It's now spring and my underside other than the look of the dull dirt covered woolwax and fluid film is rust free. With that I'm going to have a glass of Cosmoline now and relax.

I pressure washed under full throttle. I do every spring. I'm a car nut. This week I drove in heavy rain. Just took this video. I would say there is plenty of protection on there still after a crazy winter and power wash

This winter was the worst I can remember in MA. All winter long the roads were pure white. They used so much you could actually see the salt dust being kicked up by traffic whenever the roads were dry. Can't imagine any of this was good for the environment. Yet the last overnight icing we had, they waiting until the morning commute was in full swing to treat any of the roads.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Never thought an undercoat thread would turn into an oil thread!

Woolwax on my rig. No salt belt or snow, just beach driving which is just as bad if not cared for. I have a pressure washer with a wheeled attachment that pressure washes the underside at some odd 2500 psi. I do this regularly. My Woolwax is all still there, not cured but has a bit of a coating that looks dry but if you touch it, it smears. I am using the black flavored version. It is still there and fully functional after a myriad of pressure washer treatments.

Agreed. Mine is the clear/straw color. You can see in the video I posted when I wipe it the dull coating is still there and the shiny paint on the frame comes through. Fluid film and Woolwax are both great products. Cosmoline is also a great product. Ketchup vs mustard. Both will do on a sandwich but some prefer one over the other. Me being me I want to be able to wash everything off the underside in the future and have it look clean and original. Pretty easy to do with FF or WW. Not so easy with Cosmoline. But if you don't want to coat on the regular every season and you do not care that the underside is not going to look uncoated with a good douching then Cosmo Kramer might be for you. I am sticking with the foot cheese stank of my FF and WW.
