We have 5 acres in the mountains about 10 hours from where I live. I'm trying to formulate a plan on how to work from the property while we do work on the property, have a cabin built, and get away from the hustle and bustle. We have power on site so I plan to have a power hookup for the camper and anything else needed.... This is where my question comes in... I work in sales, so I do need to see customers in person... But I could get away with working fully remote for a week here and there. I would need high speed internet on site. One Idea I'm kicking around is trying to run the AT&T Wifi from my truck as a temporary option if I'm only there for a week every month or every other month. Could I in theory leave my tacoma on, and then run a battery charger to the battery to keep it powered? I use the wifi during the day for work now, and it seems to work fine. Our property also has great service for AT&T as my phone works great there. The wifi in my tacoma is much better than the wifi when I tether my phone. Would my theory of being able to leave the truck on accessory mode plugged into a charger work? Seems like it would but I have no idea. Any thoughts on the plan? thanks

You can always test it before you commit to doing it.

From a quick search just now it appears I would need to subscribe monthly to this for $99, and have a clear view of the sky. Where we are is pretty heavily wooded so I'm not sure this would be a good option. Definitely was my first thought though.

Yeah, clear view of the sky is required but doable with a mast if you wanted and depending on the type/height of the trees.

There are other hotspot wifi options from Verizon and AT&T. I wouldn’t personally like to drain the battery to the truck bc if something crazy happens and you could end up staying at the property longer than planned.

You could also call your cell divider and tell them to increase your mobile hotspot capability. My buddy recently did that bc he was out of high speed internet at the new house he moved to and he also needed to be on a lot of video calls and upload large files. He said he called AT&T and they increased the mobile hotspot mbps for him bc the stores here didn’t have any of the other portable devices in stock for at least a week.

The mobile phone Hotspot may be better. Faster and cheaper

Some mobile hot spots allow for you to attach an external antenna, which is probably a good idea for your area. Mount the external antenna / amplifier up high and then put the hot spot closer to your computer (inside the camper).

I suggest to go with Verizon prepaid 5G hotspot.

If you are not doing tons of video calls then you can go with 5GB per month of data. Pay about $40 per month . When not needed for a month or two just suspend the line that way you don’t pay for when you are not using it.

Yea that was the main thing I'm concerned with, I'll have to research more if leaving it on a charger would drain it too quickly. Would have everything in the truck turned off except the hotspot. I'll probably just need to pay for a stand alone hot spot account... wonder if i can pair that with my truck wifi... The phone I use is my work phone, so I can't exactly call them and ask for that type of thing. I'm not exactly wanting to scream from the rooftops that I'm working from up there. I'm probably best off just paying for a mobile hotspot from at&t, if I want to play I should be prepared to pay! hopefully they'll let me pause it, that would make it very attractive.

First lesson, young grasshopper, since you just joined TW ... thread is 2 1/2 years old, cabin scheduled to be finished in 2 years.

Check the dates on the thread before posting what may be completely unusable thoughts.

I saw it was old, figured someone might stumble on this thread like I did, and they could potentially use the information, no such thing as useless information grasshopper.
