Different people have different priorities. For most, a freezer or refrigerator full of food is the priority.

For this, 2000/2200 watt gen is preferred.
To run a whole mid size home, approx 5kw.
Over size by 50% = 7.5kW as someone suggested.

    That peak allows AC etc.

Solar is a good alternative, except when the power goes out it can be raining and make solar panels less effective.

The issue is that your engine is not providing the power via a full generator kicking out 120v but is coming from the system that charges your battery. There is a mini-inverter converting the 12v dc to 120v ac.

Power works like this: volts * amps = watts... or watts / volts = amps.... so 400 watts / 120 volts = 3.3 amps. Most appliances that "run" have two wattage ratings -- one to get them started (heavy draw) and one for continuous running (lower draw). You're going to be able to use that plug to keep the batteries for your battery operated tools charged, to run a small cooler, to run some lights... that sort of thing.

The engine has to be running. If it is in gear the max output is 100w. If in P or N the max output is 400w.

Joke’s on all of you, I’m homeless so my Taco does power my entire home.

Side note, is anyone looking for a roommate? I give really good lower back rubs.

That's interesting. On my truck, the lights on the switch will not come on showing power unless the engine is running. I have not tried just plugging something in to see if power is flowing with the "key" on but engine off and the lights on the switch not illuminated. I took the absence of lights on the switch to indicate no power to the outlet.
