Are you talking the rear did breather? I did mine in about 3 minutes, it's easy. At least for my 1st gen.

Not yet. I have to call Cabelas and see if they are ok with the possible capacity. If not I have to find another venue

June run sounds fun. Been too long since I've taken my truck out. Also, been debating selling it but I have to at least take it out on the trail ONCE here before getting rid of her. Hell, it may even convince me to keep her.

I'm also in Syracuse, close to the high school. Just moved here from Virginia a few months ago. Love it here.

I'm just not sure I can justify the cost anymore. I used to spend money like it was burning holes in my pockets but I've recently changed my perspective on things and altered my long-term goals. In order for me to meet them, I need to cut excessive costs. As much as I absolutely love my truck, I'm just not sure the cost is worth it to me anymore. Fill ups @ $60-65 per tank (getting 14-16mpg), $60/month on insurance, $365/month on payments for the next 2 years, plus maintenance and registration. That's a lot of cash that can go to more important goals.

On top of that, there's the possibility(inevitableness?) of serious trail damage. I enjoy taking my truck through some decently gnarly stuff but the thought of rolling it, or some other form of hellacious carnage, is not something I'm sure I can handle lol.

I'm extremely torn about it, though. I have done almost everything to this truck myself and modding it, wheeling it, hell just driving it brings me a good amount of happiness. But every time I drive it and see that gas needle quickly dropping, I cringe thinking of how much cash I'm burning through. Also, I feel like there's so much to do here in Utah that I can probably find some other hobby or interest that makes me just as happy. If it was already paid off, I think it'd be a lot easier to justify keeping it. I rarely drive it anymore and paying for something to just sit in my garage doesn't sit well with me.

One possibility is to pick up an older jeep/4Runner/Toyota truck that is cheap and I can beat the hell out of and not feel bad about. I do love the idea of overland expeditions, though, and I think this truck is great for it. Like I said, I'm really torn about it.

Sorry for the essay. I've been struggling with this decision for a few months now and I've avoided the forums so I don't tempt myself lol. This place is dangerous if you're trying to save $$$, as I'm sure you all know.

Ya I got ya, the only problem is if u buy an old pos to wheel you'll be dumping that much into each month to fix the dumb thing, haha but I here ya on the gas man, I was mostly asking what are you selling the truck to get? Like a little car or something?

Im talking about doing the tranny, transfer case, front diff and rear diff breather. I hope to never cross anything deep enough for water to run into the cab but shit happens sometimes.

Yeah, true that. I was thinking of grabbing a Subaru or something similar. Something that will get me to the mountains in all weather conditions but still get relatively decent gas mileage.

That's cool man, I have a few buddies with subies and they love them. They seem like pretty good cars, that's probably what I'll get if I ever get sick of my truck.

The catch is that most of the stuff to do here is outdoor oriented. Many of those activities require getting off the beaten track. When you're driving a car you're so much more limited in where you can go.

Trust me, I know. I spent 3 years driving an AWD Taurus between when my wife rolled our Land Rover Disco three times into a river in Ontario, and when I picked up my Tacoma. When I got the truck the map was suddenly a whole lot bigger again.

Very true. I definitely want to do some exploring in it first. I've seen some of your write-ups on places around here and day trips, etc. Looks like a blast and might make it worth the expense.
