Well let me pick your brain for a minute... My wife has a 2wd 2008 4runner. Currently she has Michelin defender LTX ms tires all the way around, with maybe 10k miles on them. Big question is do I need to get snow tires for her ride or not? Obviously being from georgia neither of us have driving experience in the snow but I have 4wd and ko2's.

I'd lean toward some snow tires since she's 2WD, but interested to see what others say.

You're set up well, yours are great in snow. Just remember 4WD doesn't make you stop any better in the snow.

Thanks, I drive like a granddad thankfully, plus I only go about 2 or 3 miles to get to school.

^^this^^ Fortunately I can do all my own work. But I've had dealings with various Larry Miller(Karl Malone) locations over the years and it will be a cold day in hell before I ever give them any business. And the Mark Miller dealer (no relation) is OK as dealers go.

I'd say it depends on your wife. When my wife had a FWD Honda I bought her a set of Blizzaks for all 4 wheels. She was happier which meant I was happier. :D I picked up a set of wheels so in the fall and spring it was a simple matter to swap the tires in the driveway. Now she drives a 4x4 and doesn't need winter tires.

I have KO2's as well and they are not the best snow/slick road tire, but 4WD and not driving like a nut make up for any problems.

My suggestion regardless of the tires right after the first snow fall you find a big parking lot and see how your vehicle handles in the snow. I've been driving in snow country for longer than I care to admit and I still do this every year. Skills get rusty and, well, it's kind of fun. :mudding:

Good morning folks! My company is recalling me back to VA after moving out here a year ago for work. I was wondering, how is the drive on I-80 during the first week of January? I know they can close the interstates when the weather gets bad. I've heard that at some times, they will only let you pass if you have 4wd and tire chains. Is that true?

At this rate you'll be okay . They don't close them often and when they do they work hard to open them back up.

They rarely close i80 eastbound in Utah but they close it at Evanston fairly often. Just keep an eye on that if there happens to be a storm that day

    Always in process
I've driven both 80 and 70 going from NJ to UT, I took 80 at the end of Feb and 70 at the end of Dec. I would say 80 is much better. There are some big mountains up in Wyoming but they are still better than going over 70 around the Vail area in the winter. If I were doing it I'd take 80 east, then cut down to Denver and take 70 all the way till you hit the Atlantic

Good God! Unfortunately, can't stay home ... I'm moving for work. Seeing that would make me want to add an extra day to my trip by going down and take 40 ...

+1, great advice. I've done this for years too. Even in a rainy parking lot with my old muscle car, it helps a ton to feel the vehicle's limits and learn what to do when they're exceeded.

As others said, it's pretty rare and 80 is top priority for them to keep clear. The rare major blizzard is definitely nothing you want to be caught in though.

What's up Russ!!! I am sure you recognize my truck!

Russ and Paul have taken care of me and my wife for our tire needs for the last 8+ years. I have purchased five sets from them between my Tacoma and Camry...in fact, I am dropping off my Camry tomorrow to have the sixth new set put on...can't say enough good things about these guys!!! They take care of their customers! There is a reason I drive halfway across the valley to take my vehicles there!

    ^^ +1 This!!! ^^

Speaking from experience there ain't no good reason to be on the roads when shit like that is happening. It is faster and safer to check into a hotel than be out on the roads with a bunch of freaking idiots without the first clue how to drive in ice and snow. I have out of town family and every year they want me to come down for the holidays. My answer used to be "sure thing!" until I got caught in a couple of those bumper car messes. The last time it happened I checked into a hotel, took a hot shower, and watched TV. Next morning the roads were clear, the truck was undamaged and my stress levels were low. Best money spent ever!

    Cleaning out the garage:

    Anyone want/need

Relentless Driver's Side CB Antenna Hood Mount (05-15 Tacoma):

I also have a 4 ft firestik (red tip) and HD Spring with it.

Everything you need for a CB set-up minus the cable and CB.

Selling as I am changing to a magnetic whip antenna.

I'd let the entire package go for $35

    Thanks.
