I'll be working at the airport... it says around 30-35 miles away and a 45 minute drive. Coming from Seattle that would be amazing.

Yeah, I'd say around that time with NO traffic. To me, thats a damn road trip for work! I'm used to always being 10-15mins away from my work, ha!

Currently in the Seattle area... I live 24 miles away and it takes me about 1 hour during rush hour.

@tacoma98042 there are a bunch of areas in Salt Lake County and south Davis County with big yards and good for young families that are a lot closer to the airport. West Jordan, Farmington, Herriman all would work. Less time commuting means more time with your kids / on the trails / etc. I have a 7 minute commute and I LOVE it.

To reinforce Ryan's point, this is Utah. There's not much excuse to live >15 mins from work.

You'd still probably be looking close to an hour/maybe 50 minute drive. Riverton/day break is the new family area that has lots of construction but still a little bit farther out if you want out of the city a bit

We are also looking for good schools so that's a deciding factor for us. Of course I'd love to be closer to work however I know the further away from the "city" the more you get for your dollar.

Biggest thing about Saratoga and eagle Mountain is you get more for your money. Home costs there are still lower than many other areas along the Wasatch front. I commute from eagle mountain (right on the border of Saratoga) and although I wish I worked closer I got twice the house and yard that a coworker got that built in West Jordan for the same money.

That may have been true a few years ago but it's not anymore. I've been looking for the last year and the Saratoga/Eagle Mountain area has exploded and will continue to get much worse with Facebook building out there and other tech companies moving in. Plus people don't realize how far out it is from the freeway and there's still a lot of construction to be done to expand roads. That was the area to buy a few years ago. I had a buddy that bought out there in '09 and he just made 200k on his house... The best bang for your buck is probably the Davis County area Bounitful-Clearfield/Syracuse. Layton has a lot of older homes with bigger yards at decent prices compared to other areas in the valley. That's just my $.02 from someone who's been looking for a while. :drunk:

hope this helps i leave in Herriman and work at the 201 and bangerter interchange and it takes about 30 min in the morning to be at work at 7, and 45 in the afternoon. The airport is another 10 min form there, another guy at work live in Saratoga and is 50 min in the morning.

Sounds about right, I'm in Orem and it takes me 45 minutes to get to work at 201 and bangerter by 7 and about an hour to get back home.

Traffic can be a mother though. All depends. I live in Taylorsville and take the 215 up to North Salt Lake. Takes me 15-20 minutes to get to work, and there isn't ever any traffic. I can get to the airport in about 10 min.

I'm installing my OME 2" lift kit this weekend with @st1ckbow ... does anyone know of a DIY garage with post lifts where I could rent a bay for the day? I thought I had found a garage on 700W but it appears to be permanently closed.

Anyone buying in 08-12 got a good deal and probably has a ton of equity now. I just built less than a year ago. Coworker just after me and I still got much more home and yard then she did. It certainly has exploded even more so over the last year but I couldn't have bought a similar home anywhere south of West Jordan for the price I paid. The facebook building shouldn't have a huge impact. If I remember right they are only going to have like 10-20 employees. Thats the only reason the city went for it. Lots of taxes without straining the infrastructure too much with a bundle of new people. There is lots of construction right now but the plans for that area are better than the plans elsewhere. It is still semi open so there are lots of options for transportation whereas other areas dont have much space left to expand without huge impacts.

I do agree that for someone commuting to the airport that Syracuse and Layton would be better options.

The consistent hour+ drive home from Salt Lake to Clearfield at 5 PM is kinda a pain though...

Anyone want to go watch the World of Speed event this weekend in Wendover? Was gonna head out and camp Friday night, watch the races and hang around Wendover Saturday, then camp just south of town Saturday night since I have a thing out that way on Sunday.
