I know, I think it’s bullshit. I just barely moved to Logan for school so I haven’t had to deal with much but where I grew (Vernal), they don’t close the gates till the snow gets bad. Last year I was driving on them up through late January haha.

Someone should start a petition and try to get to change or something...

Hellz yes, I'm in. Finally gonna make one of these.

AF Canyon down FR056 to the overlook would be kinda neat first TW rally, and relatively easy. Not feeling a big push like Forest Lake or anything at the moment though personally.

Or blast down the PET a ways.

Ha, yea I’ll be there. No college football on Sunday’s.

I’m glad you’re in. You know all the spots. I just elected you leader. AF sounds good to me. I assume we’re going to have a bit of snow up there. It could be interesting.

If it's anything like up at Snowbird day before yesterday, yeah, it'll be snowy in a few spots. Nothing to worry about though. Ranger station says 056 is still open.

Edit: UDOT cam towards the top is looking pretty barren.

So, if everyone is cool with it, Meet up on Sunday for an easy AF Canyon run down FR056. @BOMBS could easily do it in a stock truck, and would be a good shakedown for a first offroad group trip. Alternate if AF Canyon closes a bunch of stuff could be a run down to the Elberta Slant Tunnel near Eureka.

There is a big gravel lot at the mouth of the Alpine side right before the toll booth. We could take roll call there, then head up to the Timpooneke CG lot to air down a tad to take the edge off. Meet at the lot at 10am sound good? Would get us back home mid-afternoon.

I'll have to see that's a tight time frame for me. Sundays are usually pretty busy for me.

I’m good. I’ll have to search for the “big gravel lot”. Is it at the mouth of the canyon? Never mind, just saw the coordinates.

Is FR056 a decent trail? Is 4WD required?

I’ve done Marry Ellen Gulch, which was good. Apparently, I didn’t go all the way to the top, but nonetheless was still good. Not sure how two vehicles going opposite directions could pass, but... Miller Hill is supposed to be good, but no personal experience.

    Rock ‘n roll.

056 is a rocky fire road with a good view of Happy Valley at the end and some cool vistas along the way. In the dry, you could do it in 2wd. In the mud, 4HI might come in handy in a few places. Some decent sized rocks you'd want to maybe pick a line over in a stock truck, but its pretty mellow. Just a good excuse to meet cool people. I just didn't want to sign a bunch of strangers up for some like MEG or Forest Lake without knowing skill and ability levels. (I've done neither if I'm honest :anonymous:) I like the West Desert more.

If anyone has anything in questionable condition on their truck for the trail run, stay far away from Patrick.

@P.Blackley When do I get my support team shirt?

I plan on making it about a mile into the trip then I'm just gonna hook a tow strap onto your truck.

I plan on ordering shirts sometime this winter. I'll get a hold of you for a shirt size when I do.

Yup, and at least it was only an axle that broke. Less money than rebuilding the transmission...again, for the third time this year

The whole car is coming apart this winter to take the frame to get blasted and inspected for cracks. Then we're gonna coat it with steel-it and do a full prep for Battle at Primm in April.

Marry Ellen isn’t bad. I haven’t been all the way to the top. I’ve heard going to the top is a bit more intense. The part I did a stock Taco could probably do it just fine from what I recall. It’s challenging enough to make it worthwhile.

There is a trail I’m told is good in Goshute Canyon, which I want to check out at some point. You been out there?

Where were the pics taken? Looks cool.

Those were all along the 056 trail. That big field is about 95% of the way to the overlook.

I haven't really ventured into the canyons all around here just yet. Had to armor up first, then found mobbin' through the desert is more my thing. Rock crawling and stuff can be fun, but spending all day to go like 2 miles just doesn't do it for me.

Still need to buy a proper skid plate...

So on a side note, I'm thinking about buying a 11-12 inch workspace vinyl cutter. I know there's a few peeps on UTOR, etc that make cool stickers and stuff and I don't want to poach their business, but I was thinking about becoming like a rapid prototype sticker maker. Like just one off type stuff. Nothing too complicated. Frankly, it would mainly be for my own amusement.

Would anyone be interested in something like that?
