Except we have these two lifelines strapped to our backs. Unlike this guy, one mistake and he is done-zoe. I like my odds way better.

That's cool. I totally get it. I'm all for good deals so trust me, I'm not here to argue, I'm just giving you some friendly advice. We've completed two tent shipments from that same exact manufacturer for the exact same reason - to get everyone a better cost on a non-branded tent. It sounds really great, and can be really great if you're ready for the snags. Our third shipment of hard shells, which were sitting at the LA port just the other day, had some petty issue (something about the colors?) and without warning are now on their merry way back to China. Expect delays. We've had them every time.

Anyway, we had told people one cost per tent and ended up having to bump up the price once they got here. People were not happy, especially those who already paid, but neither were we with the port fees we didn't plan on. So I mean, take the advice or leave it - doesn't bother me. I've done this rodeo before and got burned for not knowing. So! Now you know and I wont say anything else about it. Best of luck!

@cwhet10 no thanks for the tips. It’s nice to hear from someone that’s done it. So besides the shipping they quote you there are more fees at the port? What are those for?

Customs, wharfage, chassis util. , Document charges, etc. is all stuff we worried about when sending thing over the ocean at my last job. Good call Cristin, didn't think about that side of things.

I did see a person on KSL selling unbranded RTTs (2person model) last year for around 700, which isn't too bad of a price honestly.

You can get a discount on tepui or CVT through this forum as well. Something like 10% off.

I actually ran into a guy here in So. Utah who had a RTT and the brand was called Hardcore tents or something, he said it was equal in quality to CVT ot Tepui and cost like 50% less. I looked up the company and he was right. Youtube vid reviews looked solid too. Also there is a company someone told me about called 23 Zero. Have you heard of those brands?

I've heard of 23Zero. Not the other one though. I think everyone and their brother sees the cash cow RTT market, and figures the import process is worth the hassle.

A friend and designed and built it. He’s a custom fabricator with his own shop. He probably would do another one off but I know really wants to do a small run for a group buy. 5 +

Yes, and Conner got it. Customs are your biggest fees. And you HAVE to pay it or else your stuff doesn't leave the port. And then they'll charge you per day if you don't come get it. So sure the guy in China quotes you at $650 per tent, but he's not factoring in putting them on a cargo ship and sending them across the ocean. And once they get to the U.S., then it's no longer their problem, so they don't mention the port fee details either.

Honestly, if you have some serious capital, buy an entire shipping container of tents. Only bringing a small handful over is more costly because they're individual items, if that makes sense. A container is hella easier for those port guys to manage and it'll be a tremendous savings on shipping overall. Bigger chunk of change up front, but I think those containers hold 20 tents if I remember right, so there's definitely a margin to break even or even profit if you play it right. #GoBigOrGoHome

There's always the option of using a ground tent. It's definitely capital friendly.

I remember the name of that other RTT company. Its Tuff Stuff, and they're made from the same materials as the other high end tents and cost half as much. You can buy a 3 person on Amazon for like $1350 w free shipping. It also comes with a free annex that fits a queen sized bed

    Working on them
I looked at one of those and and Passed on it. very cheap with poor quality workmanship many seams were only single sewed and the base kinda reminded me of that plastic corrugated board. Go to this place they have several locations in Utah and 2 different brands of RTTs along with specials that knock down the price good and no shipping charges added when you go pick it up. <www.4wheelparts.com >
