I think to save the headaches I will just buy a CVT tent. No dealing with China. Thanks all for your help. CVT definitely looks like the nicest out of most roof top tents and I have heard Bobby is awesome by a lot of people.

Good choice! And Bobby is really awesome. I catch up with him once a year or so and he's definitely passionate about the company and customer service. You won't be disappointed.

Are there going to be any meet ups in the Utah area in the near future? I'd love to see everyone's rings and pick some brains before I go too whole hog into everything. ;) Also, looking for some hunting accessories to add to my truck. Does anybody have any suggestions of sites to look at? Thanks in advance!

Tepui Kukenam on a rack (still RTT). If you're headed in this direction, def go with the "ruggedized" version. It adds a little bit of weight but much needed durability. A friend has the non-ruggedized and the shell is destroyed after a few Mexico trips.

Also, caught word (last night) from one of my former Backcountry DR's that Yakima has three new tent offerings that are a lot more capable than their current. Might be worth checking.

If you can get in on a group buy with @ChandlerDOOM it's well worth it.

I've used mine in windy, cold (below freezing), wet conditions and have been very happy and surprised with how well it holds heat. And there is zero comparison on setup and take down times. I can pull into a spot, setup and be inside the tent within 5 minutes. Try that with a soft one.

Sure it's a little more expensive, but WELL worth it. (You'll probably save enough in gas mileage loss to pay for the difference within a year of a streamlined hard shell vs a soft shell if it's on the roof)

Btw, it is identical to a Roofnest that my friend had.

What part of UT are you in?

@eltacoutah You still planning on seeing the Elberta tunnel tomorrow and some mining sites? Got a time and a place to rally? I may be down to join you.

I can easily open my Tepui and be in bed in less than 5, speaking from experience. Hardshells destroy the folding type in the packing up stage though, which is always my least favorite part.

Great question, to start off with: How can I maintain a good camping/hunting/bug out truck while keeping some the basic utility of a day-driving truck? For example, I'll be moving soon, and it'll be great to use the bed of my pickup for hauling stuff to our new place. I'll be using the bed for basic hauls from time to time, but not regularly. So what are some set ups, (tonneau covers, bed racks, etc) That will allow for some "family" functionality. Or, do I just say screw it, this is my dedicated camping/exploring/hunting rig and get a trailer haha.

I really like the Diamond Cover for example, (first saw it on LLOD's youtube channel) but it looks like a pain in the arse to remove. Say I put that on however, what is the best way to mount a rack to put an RTT on? Will that destroy the functionality of the Diamond Cover? For camping, I'd love an RTT, but I also fish and have a large fishing kayak I'll need to figure out how to mount as well.

    Things like that.

Yes we still are. We're meeting at the Orem Walmart off University Parkway at 8 am if any wants to join. We're doing it a little early so people can still get some stuff done on their Saturday. It's not a long trail I don't think so it will be relatively quick.

Yeah from pavement to the tunnel is like 1.5 miles tops. I'll message you on FB tonight if I can make it.

Know where the meeting spot is? Walmart on university parkway in Orem. I’ll be in the north side of the parking lot by the McDonald’s.
