I think my parents are gonna be in town the weekend of the 21st. The 12th and 13th work better for me.

@Jiveydude, The only weekend that won't work for me is 1-11 through 1-13.

Anyone in the Sandy area and ride motorcycles?

Theres a used one up there at a dealer Im interested in... I literally JUST got my endorsement last month and am still a tad conservative (ok, nervous!) to take a test ride on my own...
Anyone want to take a test ride for me, and report back? I'll a round or two... or 6pack...

What type of bike is it? I've found it's always best to test drive yourself to make sure you are comfortable not only on the bike and can reach everything okay, but like how it drives and handles as well.

I completely agree! What I learned on and tested for my DL on is the same bike. I just have so few hours under my belt, Im still uneasy...
That being said... Kawasaki KLR 650.

I think you'll like it if you can find someone to ride with. Looking at getting my endorsement just for the sake of buying that exact bike.

So a 650 is in the next level above what a default UT "I rode around the cones in the lot" endorsement is for (600 and under). How'd you test up? Or did you transfer your license from CA or wherever it was you came from?

A default endorsement is for 649cc and under.

EDIT: default...assuming you test on something 249cc or larger.

You're right. I couldn't remember if it was 599 or 649. I knew it was 1 cc under a limit, just not which one.

The KLR 650 has a 651cc motor though, so the question still stands. Just didn't wanna get to the DMV and they get me on a 1 or 2 cc technicality.

Im ok riding on my own. Most of what I plan is camping recon. Husband work M-F and I usually plan our weekend outings. Soooo many BLM and FS lands around here, I just want to be able to run out, find some cool spots during the day. Run to the post office, drop by friends homes... Im brand new to bikes, never had an endorsement. Ever. Did the class on their bike. Had a friend bring their KLR to the last day of class/test and was able to get the 650+ endorsement.

What I found unique is that most bikes come in under their badged size. The KLR is at 651.

Damn, that's dumb. I wonder why they made it 651cc...normally most "650" bikes are 649cc or under.

I ride a 1000 and my license is only good for 650cc :devil:

Ah. You tested out. I knew most bikes are a touch watered down from the badge and hoped I could squeak by, but the 650 is tricky like that.

@Cuffs If you're in Sandy tonight, hit me up. I live / work here! Would be down to meet for a beer and put a face to a name.

Whatever the bike is labeled as, is good. They (DL office) is not looking at the spec sheet. If you test on a '650' that actually 648 1/2, its still a 650 to them.

So did you have any problem licensing your bike with your 649 endorsement? seems like somewhere in the bureaucratic chain that would get flagged.

So I'd need to test up regardless. Got it.

Nope. No issues when I bought it and no issues when I've renewed my license either. I don't think they check that...it's a pretty silly law to begin with. I don't know any of my friends that have the right endorsement for the size bike they ride, ha.

@Cuffs Having a dual sport bike for scouting seems like it could be fun. I've never rode a bike offroad before...only street bikes but I could see it being fun!
