I’m not sure. I couldn’t find it listed on the ticket.

Honestly, not overly concerned about the ticket. Well, unless it’s extreme, then I might change my mind. More concerned about going forward. My rig doesn’t blend in well. This guy seemed to have an issue tonight, and every time he sees me, he’s going to get pissed off.

He was determined to reach his quota for the day and satisfy his ego. In the name of "public safety".

Apparently. I’m guessing it was a slow night.

No, no I’m not laughing at this. Like I said earlier, I’m not a mud flap kinda person.

He just didn’t understand what HC was all about.

What a choad. I see 8,000,000 bro-rigs a day with crazy offset wheels sticking way the fuck out. Perhaps argue it in traffic court?

With safety inspections being eliminated I am sure they will be issuing a lot more "fix it" tickets. Typically these tickets are only a $50 fine if the issue is not fixed.

    A definite choad, no doubt.

I mean picture this. It’s 1900 hours on a Tuesday night and traffic is reasonable but not light. We’re pulled over at the 700 East exit and parked between the exit and the freeway. Officers are getting whacked almost daily by vehicles driving a 80 mph with their faces buried in their cell phones, and he wants to risk his life over some douch in a bro rig b/c he doesn’t have mud flaps. It doesn’t make sense to me.

No worries. I’ll gamble and pay the ticket, but I do appreciate the offer. This is what I love about the community.

Yeah, I’ll pay the damn ticket. The problem is my truck sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m marked.

I found the applicable sections of the vehicle code, and he can definitely get you for the mud flaps according to section 41-6a-1633 because you have altered the original manufacturer's frame height. And apparently mud flaps are only required for rear wheels and not the fronts.

As far as the tires sticking out past the fenders, I thought that the entire tread was supposed to be covered by fenders but 41-6a-1631 states that "If the wheel track is increased beyond the O.E.M. specification, the top 50% of the tires shall be covered by the original fenders, by rubber, or other flexible fender extenders..." so now I'm not sure. There is a line in section 1630 that says wheel spacers can't be used, but if yours are only out because of the wheels then I think you could at least get out of that one.

Sucks that you got pulled over for either when there's a million jeeps on the road that are much worse.

That’s talking about vertical coverage, i.e. flaps have to be at least down to the center of the wheel hub. But yeah they can get you if the fender doesn’t cover the whole width ... my neighbor with old Jeeps has ridiculous looking plastic strips on his fenders cause he kept getting cited.

I'm not so sure, the flap coverage is in section 1633. 1631 is talking about a horizontal change (wheel track), so I can't see how the 50% coverage in the same sentence could mean vertical. But, I have also heard that the fender has to cover the whole width. Maybe that rule is defined somewhere other than the vehicle code?

Edit: maybe it's this part of 1633: "Except as provided in Subsection (2)(b), rear wheels not covered at the top by fenders, bodies, or other parts of the vehicle shall be covered at the top by protective means extending rearward at least to the center line of the rearmost axle."
I guess you could say that the rear wheels aren't "covered" unless the fender extends all the way over the tire.

The code sections cited on the ticket are Tire Violation-Width 41-6A-1631(2) and No Mud Flaps 41-6A-1633.

Don’t get me wrong. I have no issues with law enforcement, it just shocks me you want to risk your life over mud flaps on what probably look to him like some punk in a modified truck.

One of my cop friends pointed out to me that more serial murders have been busted through broken tail lights than their own actions. The rule of thumb is "never break 2 laws at once". Don't speed if you've got a "road soda" popped, etc.

Also, "don't drink and drive, because someone texting and driving will hit you, and you will be at fault"
