    Sorry, we're full. :D

You can live just over the border in Grand Junction, CO or Wendover, NV though.

Yeah, the Soviet mentality lives on too. Lots of shady business going on to this day. They just changed the agency names, but they all stayed in their posts.

The KGB became the FSB (akin to the FBI) and the SVR (akin to the CIA) but it was business as usual.

I think where us natives have a problem is when people move in from out of state and try to make our state like the one they just moved away from, especially California or Commifornia as we like to call them lol. And you're already seeing the results of it. High housing prices, taxes going up etc. The joy of living here is that it once was affordable but now that's not the reality. That's where I get frustrated, but it is what it is :notsure: in the end like what has been said, if you're cool and adapt a little then you'll be fine.

Washington esp the Seattle area has been suffering this for about 20 years now. I ended up leaving because rent was unbelievable! Now I see it happening to Utah as well.

Then again, I'm a transplant as well, so I guess I need to keep my mouth shut.

Dude - Wendover?! that's just mean to suggest someone live out there. Grand Junction is pretty awesome though. I've spent a lot of time down there enjoying outdoorsy things. Yeah, move to Grand Junction that's the place to live! :rasta:

As a native, family goes back to the original settlers, I'm OK with people moving here and bringing something with them. Utah as a state has a pretty sad restaurant selection as compared to other parts of the country. Don't get me wrong there are some good places, but I've yet to find good fried plantains here. Also they need legalize adulthood. The people up on the hill, locals will know what that means, are very two faced. Out of one face they get all uppity about state control, and out of the other face they very much want to control how adults live their lives. Things are slowly getting better on that front and I chose to believe that is because "outsiders" are pushing for change.

Grand Junction is nice (JK) Talk to me about housing prices, I'm in the middle of having a house built right now. I've gained $10K in equity and I haven't even moved in. Traffic sucks because the dipshits that laid out the roads never gave any thought to east/west travel. Silicon slopes can't build new buildings fast enough and the prison land opening up is only going to make it worse.

Nope the affordability train has left the station, if you're not on it well . . . (and my son isn't on it and I'm wondering how he'll ever afford a house.) So, we might as well be able to eat a nice meal :hungry:, before going back to our tiny little apartments.

Right it's good for people who already own a home, but for people like me who are still trying to get into their first home it's ridiculous. On top of that property, water, and sewage taxes keep going up. The economy is good, especially if you're moving from california and paying cash for a home... but i'm hoping by next spring i'll be ready to get a house. The wife started working again that's about the only way we can make it work unfortunately.

I totally get you. There could be another housing crash and you could potentially get in on that. That's how I got my first home, 30 years ago, with my wife and I both working.

At a previous gig they wanted me to relocate to the LA area. A house like mine was 4 times as much and the taxes were too. I was floored. When I asked the people that reported to me down there how they afforded things they acted like it was no big deal. Some of them made 1/2 what I did. When I had an opening in SLC I tried to entice one of them to move, but they weren't willing. The single biggest reason for them not wanting to come? Snow. They were more than willing to put up with the LA craziness to not have to deal with snow.

So you hear that all you outsiders?! It snows here and gets colder that a witches titty. Burr. Don't believe me, look at my freaking avatar. Burr so very, very cold.

Home prices are like the stock market: a yo-yo going up an escalator. Short term ups and downs but always up in the long run.

Plenty of young folks wanting their own place, plenty of people looking to move here from other states, and not much room for more new homes near SLC will fundamentally keep pushing the market up.

It'll be interesting to see where it goes. I can see it softening but would be very surprised if it dropped a lot.

That's why I left Seattle. I make good money, but a $900K house is never gonna be in my price range.
