Ouray and Durango are two of my favorite places. The road between them just as much.

Durango Doughworks for killer breakfast burritos BTW!

Anyone here willing to explain the crazy system that Utah has for getting a deer tag? I've read the manual and I'm still trying to make sense of it all.

It looks like I have to apply for a species to hunt and the hunt unit/area in which I prefer to do it then hope I get my name drawn out of the hat?

Trying to make sense of it all after being spoiled by the VA system of "go to walmart, buy hunt permit, go find up to 8 deer between Sept 1 and March 31"

Pretty much. It's a point system so if you don't draw you get a point and the more points you get the higher the likelihood of getting a tag down the line. Depending the area, type of animal, and type of weapon used you can get a tag regularly. I put in for general season rifle buck in Monticello and I get it every year. It's a little harder to draw general season rifle up here because there are a lot of people. But if you do muzzle loader or archery you have a much higher shot. The whole system is screwed up. I've been putting in for Elk for 4 years and still haven't gotten a tag...

And if you don’t draw a tag you can buy an over the counter tag but success rates are pretty low

I'm just itchy to go find a deer. Finally got out of apartments that would have shit a chicken if I had drug a deer back, and have a spiffy new 6.5CM to exercise.

Durango has a killer MTB scene there as well. Even got to ride my bike through the brewery a few years ago as part of a bike race.

If you want a wingman for your fall trip, I'd be glad to tag along or meet you down there for a beer.

Go buy an OTC rifle elk for somewhere since you missed all the draws

Prob would go with a OTC muley tag instead if I can. I don't have enough freezer space or friends for an elk.

Gotta go visit a field office so I can show my VA hunt creds and get a blue card too.

I don’t think there’s very many OTC rifle deer hunts, I haven’t looked in awhile though

If you get an otc elk up here in Logan I’ll gladly help with the hunt and freezer problem

    LOL, funny how that works.

Last deer I got in VA was 9 minutes after I got to my blind. Went 10 feet and fell down stone dead. Deer before that was an hour and a half at a range of 7 feet. Had powder burns on it  My 8mm Mauser is a cannon when it comes to east coast deer.

Are dogs allowed on the Cathedral Valley loop trail down in Capitol Reef NP?

Unitas are nice on a friday. I did some hiking with my dogs and then made my way down to coalville through chalk creek road/ Whitney Area. Be sure to stay on trail when driving on chalk creek, it is private on either side, but the road is free to traverse.

You can even Make it to the "L" portion of the Utah/ Wyoming border.

Anyone want a free trd rim and tire? Yes; free. Got it for free, didn't use it, want it gone.

Yeah, you missed the draw and application period for 2019. The only way you have a chance to chase anything in 2019 is if you buy a general season archery elk tag OTC.
