Are you referring to the Transcontinental RR aka Utah Ghost Rail Trail from Brigham City to Lucin (and south to Wendover or west into NV)?

Going to be in the SLC area for about 4 days in August. Any recommended hikes or off road trails?

There are hiking trails all around the Salt Lake Valley.
I would recommend hiking Stewart Falls Trail. 3.4 miles, trailhead located in Pleasant Grove, it is considered an easy hike.

I’m curious why you want to unload it?

I’d like to go back to a 4Runner. I haven’t used the bed of my Tacoma as much as I anticipated and I prefer the extra space inside the 4R. It’s been an amazing truck though

Ya they’re great. Who knows. If I don’t end up selling the Taco for more than trade-in I’ll probably just hold onto it and drive it until the wheels come off. The Tacoma community has definitely been the coolest vehicle-based community I’ve ever experienced. It’s been a blast

I've got my eye on a 1st gen tundra to make into an LT monster. Or just find a well maintained LC100. Love the look of the ol girls.

I would go with the LC100, if my vote counts.

Are they a thing anymore? As I recall their founder Sonny is now a SxS aficionado now? I seem to remember a few of the local guys posting on FB about tossing their Microlander gear in a dumpster?

I have no ideas what you guys are talking about I just found the term on that website I linked to. It was a fun drive and if you enjoy solitude it makes it even more enjoyable.

Semantics. The term on the website is Northest Railroad Trail and that is pretty clear. You called it Northwest Trail Expedition Route hence why I was confused. The rest of the microlander yada yada is an inside joke about a group that used to be here in Utah and reinvented the wheel a bit as far as trails and routes? hence the parallel. Dumb humor.

Gotcha. Still a fun drive, maybe with the exception of the stop in Montello, NV.

It is a fantastic route, we (ExpeditionUtah) have been doing it annually generally as part of our Freeze Your Tail Off event or Relic Run. So much neat history out there and it's truly a year round destination. Newfoundland Mtns, Lucin, Bovines, Devils Playground, Hogups, etc all make for some great detours. We had a tour of the Hogup Pumps last summer, amazing operation.
