Road down to echo is really tame. But the desert clay gets slick as hell after wet weather.

Big win tonight for the Utes! Now we face ASU. This game will be a good test for us. Glad it’s in Rice Eccles.

I have a question for fellow Utahns (and anyone else who wants to offer insight) regarding Fluid Film. Is it really needed here? I bought my 2015 almost a year ago and recently repainted the frame and under carriage that had surface rust, there wasn't much. I put on a TRD Baja T/X suspension and don't want corrosion on the shocks and struts. I ask because after much review, many people say it makes a huge mess out of everything sprayed, because it attracts so much dirt and road grime. My truck isn't my daily driver, I wonder if I should just spray the shocks and struts.

Does anyone have some spare 05-11 tacoma fog light housings laying around? All I need are the adjustment screws and the clips on the back like in the pictures. Trying to put my Morimoto fogs in. Thanks!

I personally on't think so, and prefer to just periodically wash the frame, etc during the winter. I could see the counter-argument that it doesn't hurt and doesn't take too long to do. I don't because that stuff REEKS when you apply it. I did hit the coilovers with it last winter though and it seems to prevent a lot of surface corrosion, etc.

Can someone with experience help me out here?

I have not found a definitive explanation of how private vehicle sales work in Utah.

What is the vague "sales tax" (ref. the dmv site) you pay when you register the vehicle as the new owner? Is that the property use fee (which devalues based on age), or are you actually required to pay another 6.85% double-dipper sales tax rate?

Yes, speaking as an ex car salesman in Utah I can tell you, you will always pay sales tax when registering a vehicle after a private party purchase.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing this afternoon, only Fluid Film the shocks and struts. Wash the undercarriage after driving through salt and reapply Fluid Film to shocks and struts periodically, during the winter. Then clean all that crap off of them in the Spring.

And that sales tax is based on whatever amount you put on the title or Bill of Sale. It’s legal to write “Gift” and pay zero sales tax. Utah’s double taxation is unconstitutional, greedy bastards.

Exactly, some people will agree to put down a lesser amount on the 'bill of sale' after cash has changed hands.

However this can be view as fraud.

My understanding is that they don’t do it this way anymore. They pull the car up in their database and go off that.

My buddy at work purchased my Tundra off me a couple years back and he took the bill of sale in and they didn’t want it. They just pulled the vehicle up. That’s what he said anyway.

Bill of sale is really just for buyer and seller. For private party sales, the sale price on the title is what tax is based on.

The Bill of Sale is required if the title isn’t present (a bank may be holding the title as collateral).

Sales tax amount is always based off of the noted sales price on the title or Bill of Sale. The property assessment fee, which is also collected, is based off of vehicle year.

In private party sales, if cash is used, many people put a lower sale price on the title or Bill of Sale. Because there is no proof on what was actually paid, the state tax commission can’t dispute it.

I owned a car dealership in Utah for ten years, Champion Motors Inc.

I'm one that does the entire under carriage. I just throw down a plastic drop cloth, suit up in a tyvek suit and go to town. I don't mind the smell that much, except for the little while that it any overspray on the exhaust burns off. I have been a bit anal with this truck. I was under there with a wire brush scraping off any tiny bit of rust I could find and repainting. Then I drenched it in fluid film. I just figure for the minimal cost and time investment if it helps at all I'm happy.

I would suggest that if you decide to do the entire truck that you buy the spray gun and buy the film in the gallon cans.

"Can be viewed as fraud" because that is 100% the definition of tax fraud.

Thanks for your experience and knowledge regarding Fluid Film. I’m OCD (not literally) about cleanliness, and I’m having a hard time thinking about spraying it on everything. I’m going to do shocks/coils and see what happens. I’ve already removed the little bit of surface rust I had and used Eastwood’s rust encapsulator. I figure I can just touch up any surface rust after winter. I also clear coated my shocks and struts with automotive two-stage clear prior to assembly to aid in protecting them from corrosion. I hope it works.
