I have a non-truck question for my fellow Utah residents. Does anyone have heat coils on their roof to prevent ice damns? The entrance to our house is inset and doesn't get much direct sunlight during the winter. We had lots of overflow in this area and it covered the entire entryway in a flat sheet of ice. Got a quote from a company that will install the stuff and do all of the electrical in my roof. I attached their quote diagram. Thoughts?

I ran Duratracs for 7 years on my Tacoma. When I went to a bigger tire and wheel combo, I went with the Cooper ST Maxx

    Stuff. Also things.
I’m running the STMaxx and I really like them. They’re great off-road in everything but the worst clay mud, but there aren’t many tires that can efficiently clear nasty stuff like bentonite. The only real downside for me is the load rating and the weight, but I don’t really care about that too much. They’re 315s, so they’re heavy suckers anyway.

I liked this advice from Kurt Williams (owner of Cruiser Outfitters) that he posted on UTOR when someone asked about tires
    KurtTires.jpg

    For searchibility / posterity:

Everyone's favorite tire is the last one they purchased in 95% of cases. It's literally like asking what their favorite shoe is.

That said, I've BFG's have the market share they do for a reason, they just work. They aren't perfect in every way or perhaps any way but they are a good cross section of longevity, performance and reliability. I've driven around the world on BFG's (literally) and driven the length of the Baja 1000 without a failure. No mistake we've had some fail racing but in most circumstances it's been a wheel failure that resulted in a damaged tire.

I'm also loving the General X3 tires, they have a robust sidewall that continues to impress me. I did manage to destroy one on a sharp Moab rock but I dont know that any tire would have faired better. My next purchase is some X3's for a Land Cruiser project... my 2 cents.

I have had two sets of Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains (255/85/16). My truck isn't my daily so if I would probably go with an all terrain if it was. I like how robust the sidewall is, and have not had one fail yet especially when aired down to 15 psi.

Looks pretty good to me. The heat lines go where I'd put them and they've run a line in the down spout to keep that flowing too. I always threatened to do that at my old house but never did, so I can't share any experience about how well that tape works.

I can’t get the attachment to open.

However, the big issue with heat tape is the quality of the heat tape and how it’s controlled. I like RayChem on a 2-4-8-12 timer switch. RayChem is on the pricey side but lasts a long time.

I run 265/75R16, Pathfinder 10 ply or E rated, whatever the hell you want to call it on mine. They are a really solid tire all around. They play great all over Moab, the San Juan Mountains and in the snow.

Which dealer is best for 'repair' work? I'm tired of getting the run around by Karl Malone...thinking about heading to Brent Brown Toyota because thats the next closest one to me. Does anybody have experience with them?

A metal post type thing got wedged up under my truck and cut one of the o2 sensors harnesses and now I'm getting all sort of errors codes and CEL...I repaired the wire but they are still on.....Karl Malone wouldnt look at it until I removal all my wiring accessories.

Brent Brown is dead to me. Tried to tell me a wheel bearing wasn't covered under the powertrain warranty despite me having the certified preowned manual they themselves gave me saying it absolutely was. LHM collision center in Orem did great work on my truck after a semi backed into it, and their front office person Kelsie is a tundra owner as well.

I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Mark Miller. My service advisor Chris is great to work with.

Sounds like Mark Miller may be the way to go...damn. Didn't wanna drive up that far north. And can't get in there until Monday (for an app. with Chris anyways)...was hoping to drop it off tonight/tomorrow morning.

I know what you mean by wanting to drop it off as soon as possible. The waiting it out is is very difficult.

I've had my CEL on since last Saturday...happened out of state too lol. Just wanna get it in somewhere and fixed....tired of seeing it on. I've tried the past few nights on my own to get it going again but tbh I think the ECM is messed up, sadly.

Mark Miller for the win. Absolutely worth the drive.
So is Geoff Beers in Provo if you're open to a non-dealer route...

If the dealer cost is SUPER ridicilous I may go non-dealer. My truck is under warranty still so I hope to get everything patched up properly.
