Rear lockers add resale value, guys love them on 1st gens. But for actually using them ... almost never. Like @ginseng27 I used it on Hell's Revenge, and a couple of times off road where I probably didn't need it, and then every couple of months just keep everything working.

Well it involved a local lake bed, 4 vehicles, and a scene that looked a lot like this:

    The basic facts were:

fundamental lack of understanding of the terrain during the wet season

    lack of recovery gear

lack of basic overnight provisions / bivy gear

lack of understanding / demonstrated anger when multiple recovery groups / individuals passed on trying to recover a group stuck beyond what was reachable from solid ground

Cant speak for the whole group stuck out there. That said, I have seen baffling stupidity in all shapes and colors.

damn it! apparently my ECU is too old and I need to probably update it. and it might cost me to do it. I am severely out of warranty range. Anyone have any good suggestions or should I just pony up and have them "run the diagnostics" and then update the damn thing?

I use mine more in the snow than anything. Definitely not necessary but makes feel pretty unstoppable if you throw chains in the back too.

Until you get stopped, then it’s usually not fine.

OVtune should have tune flies for any 3rd gen ecu calibration. Shouldn’t have to update to run the tune. Although, most folks with the tune say the newest calibration has even better results with the tune.
With the OVtune hardware and your computer, you should have everything you need to get techstream running and load the oem calibration to your truck yourself.

I absolutely love my rear locker.

On the bright side, you can always add it later

Same here, the rear is a necessity for me. The front locker is nice but doesn't get used near as often.

Thats what I would've thought but one dealer is quoting me "150" to run a stupid ass "diagnostic" to see if I need to update. I'm gonna call somewhere else later.

well...My calibration file is reading as 04b01. Which according to their website, I'm supposed to be at least 04b03. What's weirder is according ot their website, only 2016's should be on the lower numbers but my 2017 definitely is. In my case, it sounds like i need to go get an ECU TSB taken care of. I'm not entirely sure if ovtune would have the file for ecu calibration update. I already emailed to ask what to do. I'm suspecting i just have to go get the TSB taken care of. :/

I have read from the OV Tune thread that you can use Techstream to update your TSB on your own without the dealer and there are other TW members that has the knowledge and can provide you with assistance if needed, like a step by step walkthrough depending on who you talk to.

I’ve been toying with selling my 5th gen runner. I really really like it so I’ve not wanted to but now that I’ve got my Tacoma, I’m not really driving it at all. It’s a ‘16 Trail Premium BP-51 lift SPC UCAs with 285/70 17 KO2s on Rotiform SIX-OR Wheels. ~45k miles, about 1k miles on the lift, wheels, and tires. I planned to keep it and build both it and my Tacoma but the Tacoma is getting all the attention right now. :)
