That was exactly what they told us. Could be two weeks, could be two months, they aren’t sure. For now it’s the foreseeable future.

Made the mistake of walking into Harmons for a bagel this morning, not noticing the parking lot was 1000% more full than normal at 7am on a Friday. Holy mother of god. Looked like the damn breadlines of Soviet Russia. Meanwhile several hundred people recovered from COVID with bed rest and OTC medication in Seattle, just a new case of the flu, NBD. Holy hell people are dumb, and easily brought to panic these days.

So what you're saying is if I need to go to the store, I need to make sure I have a cough and sneezing a lot, trouble breathing may help expedite my trip too?

Boutta run a couple WHO logos through the vinyl cutter, slap them on my truck, and park out front with the wigwags on. THAT should do the trick!

If it were a real crisis, there wouldn't be a line at the checkout, just an exodus out of the door.

you’re right, ~80% of people with the virus recover in 1-2 weeks. some don’t experience any symptoms at all... that’s nbd.

the flip side is ~20% of people require hospitalization. combined with how quickly this spreads, if a third of the population contracts this thing over the next two months, that could put ~20 million americans in the hospital system at the same time. that’s the part officials are concerned about, and why everything’s getting cancelled.

why people are clearing out stocks of toilet paper, i don’t know...

Oh, I get the large crowd events getting cancelled. I don't take issue with that.

It's that last bit you mentioned that I take EVERY issue with.

The problem is the media hype is what's making this feel like it spreads so quickly (n ot saying it's not contagious and I'm all about trying to curtail it as much as possible). The rate of transmission is right around that of the common cold. (depending on location, some it's much lower and some are a little higher)

Back in February I was on a 3 wk work trip to Lousiana. I had 'flu like' symptoms (Fever, running nose, coughing) but it didn't seem like the normal flu. I wasn't bed ridden, just took some dayquil/ niquill and got over it in like 5 days. All my other coworkers had similar symptoms.

At that point, there weren't any 'cases' in the US. I am wondering if I encountered it and then simply got over it? I am curious if there is a way to test for it if you previously had it.

You should have an antibody load if that were the case. You could prob test for it, but I'm not sure its worth it at this point.

Our company doctor made a point yesterday to point out that running nose (and a few other common symptoms) are absolutely not symptoms of COVID-19. Just FYI.

Thought I read somewhere it involved a running nose. Guess not. Just checked the cdc website and a running nose is not part of it.

Whatever the case, people are better prepared for an Ebola or Cholera outbreak right now, but powerless to Coronavirus...which sampling data suggest a large swath of the Utah population already has and is asymptomatic, as opposed to bleeding from the eyes and vomiting battery acid like CNN would suggest

    not enough.
Also...if you're young and healthy without a pre-existing condition....hospitals are likely to say, "you're not an at risk group...let's test those who are"...

It was funny because we had a company exec get up at our company wide standup and say he's been traveling a bit lately and has a runny nose, could it be covid-19. The Doc was trying to keep a straight face but as professionally as she could, clarified it is was not a symptom. She said symptoms are more closely like pneumonia than a cold.

Corporate execs are almost universally the silliest group in any company. I used to work at a metal foundry, and one of the execs asked if (in an effort to utilize cost savings on energy usage) turning off the electric arc furnaces when we weren't running would be a good idea... If you know anything about foundries, you'd know that would be a HORRIBLE idea.

Oh man, that sucks! You can always hang out at the grocery store and watch the madness. I think it's the only place left were large crowds can gather and swap germs.
