Anybody ever have issues with Discount tire out in Sandy. I just got my General Grabber X3s installed yesterday on my summer rims with new TPMS sensors.

Woke up today and had to run to home Depot and the TPMS light pops on. So I stop in to Discount and one of the gentleman attempts to reset the system and none of the TPMS were communicating with my truck. So they fully replace all of my TPMS and get it all working. Good to go or so I thought.

I was working on a project in the garage and I look at my passenger front tire and it is deflated, weird but figured they just forgot to inflate it fully. I'll stop by when I'm out and about next and get it filled up. But as I am working I notice the tire is only getting flatter and flatter. So I decide to swap to my spare and drive over and let them fix it. So I chock the rear tires, drop my spare and go to break the lugs and I broke two studs off and detected another cross threaded stud due to its excessive resistance. I get the tire off and put on my spare and bolted 3/6 lugs to spec and went to like 45ft/lbs on the cross threaded one. I drove over and dropped the truck off, gonna go pick it up soon. I'll keep y'all in the loop.

To add to this story the last time I did a rotation there they also broke another stud. I have NEVER broken studs changing wheels on my truck or others. Heck, last week I changed three flats out in the west desert (not on my vehicle) and I didn't have any issue with cross-threading/stripping etc.

Was wondering if any of y'all have had similar experiences or if you have any suggestions for how I should handle this? I work in customer service (well I did till I got laid off) and understand employees make mistakes but this seems rather egregious.

I took my wife’s AWD vehicle there to get a flat fixed. The tech screwed up and made the hole bigger which made it unrepairable. I had to buy a new tire, but being an all-wheel drive, I had to buy 4 so the wear pattern would match. I bitched enough to the manager that I ended up getting one tire for free, which I believe I should have gotten anyways, but he also threw in free hazard warranty for the other three. I still go there and have never had any other issues with them before or since.

That's good to hear, they repaired my last wheel stud free of charge. But at this point I'm pretty bummed, wheel studs don't just strip like that, they strip because of a lack of common Sense/patience. Which I don't necessarily appreciate.

They are getting it repaired for me but now I don't have my truck for the night and I have some lube tech repairing it at the place next door. I have half a mind to get a ride down there from my friend and just do the job in the parking lot to spite them haha. Time myself for the job at 95$/hr and have that value applied to my previous purchase.

I’ve gone to that Discount for years and pretty much always had good experiences. A couple little things but they’ve generally been fair and easy to work with. I keep an eye on them and make sure they know I’m watching them to torque the lugs by hand.
Stuff happens, there’s rogue techs that screw up in all sorts of shops. Hopefully they get you taken care of.

I always go to Discount Tires for all my vehicles tire needs and never had a problem, but I have never gone to the one in Sandy. It could have been a bad day, a bad person working on your truck and bad luck or flat out incompetence.

Well they got me all fixed up down there at discount. The reason my tire went flat was the valve stem was seated improperly and thus let out air. Tire is good and holding air now.

The studs that were broken (3/6) we're all replaced. When I went to leave I got in my truck the ABS light and Traction control light were fully illuminated. I immediately was worried that the tech who replace my studs had damaged my wheel speed sensor and/or harness. I drove the truck around the block, pulled the battery cable (-) for about ten minutes and the lights stayed on. At this point I was ready to drive my truck through the front door of the discount.

I went back explained what was going on and the manager and myself walked over to mechanic's shop, the mechanic denied knowing what happened and told me I needed to reset the system by driving??? I took another lap around the block and decided it would be best to go to another mechanic. So I called them up and they had a short window for me to get serviced available.

I boogied over there and they proceeded to diagnose my ABS system. Good news all sensors/harnesses were function as normal. Bad news my warning lights were still on. I broke a wheel speed sensor last year and remember it blew it fuse as well so decided I should tell the mechanic about it and they pulled the truck out of the bay so I could show him my fuse I replaced last time. Turns out that fuse was still good but since we had the box open we checked all the fuses and it turns out it was my brake switch fuse just decided to take a poop on me. So no wrong doing to either party, just a weird shit happens to end my saga.

It ended up only costing me 45$ for the diagnosis and I figured it wasn't anyone's fault so I just ate it. As for discount they didn't immediately offer any sort of discount, or rebate for my ordeals but the manager said he would help me out with my next set of winters this year. I wasn't pushy for a deal but I feel like I got reasonably taken care of. Like I said I work in customer service, I understand shit happens and as long as they acknowledge their wrong doing and do their due diligence to fix it I dont necessarily feel the need to argue for free shit.

How crowded was it out there? I feel like all I've been seeing on IG through this quarantine are people out in the west desert.

My wife and I went for a drive out west on Sunday. The pony express trail proper had some people on it, but once we left that we didn't really see very many people. We didn't go to the tunnel though.

Anyone have any experience with Gladiator tires? I saw them for the first time on a Jeep (or at least I think they were Gladiator tires). I believe they were the X Comp M/T's. I swear the size on the jeep were 285/70/18's, but that size doesn't appear on their website, so not sure.

They look like an aggressive tire.

I assume you're referring to https://gladiatortires.com/ and not to the tires that come on the Gladiator right? When we ordered my wife's JL, we had the option of the Falkens that were going to come on the Gladiators (we ordered just before the Gladiators actually available) or the BFG KO2s. Falkens are garbage so I steered clear of them. :)

No experience with Gladiator brand tires.

Yes, correct. Referring to the tire manufacturer and not the Jeep. The Gladiator tires happened to be on a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
