UTAH (and Surrounding Areas) BS Thread

I used these guys based on his recommendation and they did my plate bumper for 150$ when everyone else was around 400$. Bumper came out great and is holding up to my abuse

 

Went up RattleSnake with Z and Greg today to give the new 4runner a shakedown. Good times with knowledgable dudes!

It's pretty fun! I just found out I'm up for orders in July though so I may end up selling it in the spring, not sure I want to move it all the way out to Virginia with me...

 

I forgot to mention it, but since you were talking about Moab and such and since its hopefully still fresh in your mind, Moab has a lot of that same down angle travel feeling available around the tailings.

I'm not sure if you took the steep trail down where you have those 3 choices, but quite a bit like that. I know you took the canyon down right before the fire road, so similar to that, but steeper. Of course a lot of ups as well, but those aren't near as fun as downs.

I'm half thinking about going to play in the tailings a bit more this Sunday. Nothing quite like that feeling of pointing downwards for some reason.

I have family in town this Sunday, if they are interested I may try to go with you if you want some company, if not I may have to wait until after this weekend. I'm graduating from school (FINALLY) and commissioning on Saturday. E-6 to 01-E!! Quite the pay jump

This may be a silly question but how many of you dont run mud flaps? Will I get in trouble if I dont run them? If so I can/will register my truck in Texas where they dont give a shit as long as you have insurance..lol

 

I yanked mine off and haven't had any issues. However, I have them for when I get the truck inspected next year, just in case.

 

some people here at Spang that were at Hill told me they were sticklers about it. It be easier to register it in Utah, but I had the other option. Whats BA about Texas is they dont care about lift laws...lol

 

You'll be fine, just keep them handy.

 

I would keep them like jdk52 says, but in my case where I need to fab something up to mount mudflaps because my High Clearance, I just have hook ups.

 

Legally, if you are driving on Utah roads (and have larger tire size and/or a lift), you must have mud flaps that cover so much of your tire.

Having out of state plates and military id can help you a bit to get out of a ticket, as some believe that some laws allow things to be legal here if it is legal in the state of registration. I dont recall the law saying anything about out of state reciprocity for vehicle laws though, but I cant say I've ever looked, so its probably more along the lines of someone being understanding. If passing through, I'd think you're ok, but if staying for a while, I would suggest going by the law.

A lot of it does come down to the police officer though, and while you may or may not be legal, it is still time out of your day while they run your license and registration, and for you to have to go in and fight the ticket. Personally, my time is worth more than that. Yours may or may not be, so its up to you there.

 

Picking up 2nd LT is farther than I ever thought I'd get so in my mind the rest of my career is about looking out for my enlisted brothers. The whole reason I took this program to commission is to give them a voice. I was fucked over by some poor leaders and I am in the position I am in now because of some amazing ones, I'll always be an enlisted guy at heart. Gotta follow before you can lead!

 

I'm guilty of flashing my military ID if anyone ever gives me shit and then they always just tell me to go away. If I had to worry about every minor rule everytime I moved I wouldn't get anything done! But thanks to my Alaska residency I just register everything up there and I never get hassled...

If you have the ability to register elsewhere I would do it anyway, safety checks and emissions sound like a pain in the ass to me

 

I'm on 285's with 1.25" wheel spacers without flaps and I've never had a LEO say a word about it. But I also refuse to give up my out of state plates so that may factor in.

 

If you didn't have out of state plates you probably wouldn't get harassed but I know that if you had to do safeties here in Utah you'd fail for the wheel spacers, chances are they wouldn't say shit about no flaps though from what I have seen. Keep them out of state plates!!
