Not familiar with the area/mountain. Do you have a picture you can send me directly? I'll just pull the exact GPS cords from it.

Another thing to consider is working for an established company. You can't build/ fabricate, if you are also trying to promote your business. I see a couple local fab guys trying to do that, and the customer service is lacking. Long lead times, slow to answer phone calls and emails. Also, less risk for you since you don't have to buy/ rent a building to operate your business. If your home zoning allowed you to operate a commercial business, that would work if you had a home shop. If you live in Utah, you will probably want to explore the state, not work 7 days a week to please customers. It is one thing, doing fab on the side, but a whole other animal if you are trying to make it your dedicated income. How many sliders/ bumpers/ fab work, would it take to make $60K, $70K, or $80K?

Like others have said, the real money is CNC/ mill operation and programming. Also good 3d modeling skills (Solidworks, Catia, Fusion 360). If metal fab is your thing, I would see about getting an apprenticeship at a machine shop, or even taking some CNC classes at a local community college. In salt lake, various companies are always looking for skilled fabricators (Orbital ATK, Stadler, BAE systems).

Guess the main point is if you want to make the move from Cali to Utah, do it, but move somewhere that has industry and dont try to start a business from scratch (initially) and also try to make it your sole means of income.

yeah for reals. but they've made some improvements and added some cool flow lines. some of the jumps are amaze-balls as well. SO good. ALSO, "Blow hard" trail nearby is an amazing shuttle ride.

Haha yeah man it’s a little different. I really appreciate you lookin our though man! Hahaha yeah as far as the other guys who do Fab work I certainly wouldn’t want to encroach upon their business but the way I look at things is there is always plenty to go around. The biggest thing is that I would try my hardest to look for a home where I could run a shop out of my property so I wouldn’t have nearly as much overhead. I have a lot of thinking to do and weighing of options.

Both my vehicles are paid off, no student loans, no credit card debt. My only debt is my house and I’d be making a good chunk on my house if I sold it here so I think my finances would allow me to be able to significantly decrease my mortgage there while also having a nice nest egg to allow me to get my business up and running and slowly work my way into things at a comfortable pace.

These are all great things to hear man. This is why I posted what I did so that I could get some constructive feedback to help me better weigh my options.

I certainly don’t think I’d limit my business to just Toyota stuff. I’d be willing to build contractors racks, gates, fire pits, etc.. Whatever anyone needed built.

I probably work half and half here in SoCal doing metal fab and my full time job so I don’t feel like I’d be starting from scratch. I feel like I’ve built up enough of a rep for myself that I’d get some business. I’ve averaged about 70-80 sets of sliders per year on the side along with CMC’s and suspension installs and stuff like that. I’ve had a lot of people ask me if Id be willing to ship sliders I just wasn’t willing to this point since I get a lot of local business here. So I just have to take all of these things into consideration and really weigh some stuff out hahaha. But I really appreciate all the input! It’s very helpful

WOOOOOOWW!!!! What a douche I am!!! I’m sorry man. I was so busy with the show I was working on and it ended in March so I had a bit of a tough time keeping up with messages. I apologize! I would love to make you one if you’d still like one. I cut them out on my plasma table now so they’re nicer.
